Everyone's different and has different opinions. But I eat my exercise calories back. I'm now in maintenance, but when I was losing, I lost weight more quickly when I ate my exercise calories back, netting 1200-1500 daily, than when I didn't.

This is one of the biggest questions, but when I was losing a lot I did eat all the calories. Now I am in maintenance, and I eat most.

mmmm.... I've been wondering about this aswell. I'm about to start exercising again, I tried last time but on the second day I stacked it on a hill and took off the skin on my shoulder, bruised myself everywhere and got a hematoma - internal bleeding = massive bruise on the inside of my arm from the bike ending up on top of me inside my armpit.

so, can you just start exercising and just lift your intake like BOOM 300 more calories!! lets get wasted!

or is it more like.... im not sure about this, let me put my toe in... oooh its cold... ok a bit more.... alright im there... whew... slow an steady wins the race.

so. up in one go like BOOM or up by 100 a week?
  • Very good question. Personally, i don't eat the exercise calories unless i am hungry. ...just figure that should help me lose faster....right??

After losing over 70 lbs I have tried both ways. For me I always gained weight when I ate them. I didn't feel like I needed them, was not hungry but read all the crap on here and tried it. After gaining 8 lbs eating them back and having to re-lose that 8 lbs I said never again.

Here is the way I look at it. It is near impossible or maybe impossible to lose weight by just exercise, unless you are exercising several hours per day. But you can lose weight by just diet and no exercise (this is how I lost my first 50 lbs). In other words the majority of your weight loss comes from what you eat. You need to create a real calorie deficit to lose the lbs. Eating back your exercise calories is just slowing the progress in my opinion.

When I see a short person complain they are not losing and they are eating 2000 or more calories a day I just laugh. You will never lose weight like that.

Everyone on here has a different opinion and everyone on here thinks they are the almighty health expert. Find what works for you and stick to it.
