Are you capable of making them and only eating one or two, and staying within your calorie and macro allowances?

Track them first so you know how much each cookie will "cost" you in terms of calories, then decide if they do indeed work in your day and are worth it. Sometimes cookies are worth it to me and I go for it, sometimes they aren't and I choose something else. Now if it's a cupcake it's ALWAYS worth it to me! I think cupcakes are the one thing that will always taste better than skinny feels. :)

Agree with this approach. Life is full of Christmases. There will always be cookies. I think it's better to teach ourselves how to have a few instead of a lot and to make them fit in our goals.

This is a very hard time of the year for people who are trying to lose weight. Like you I love to make Christmas cookies...As far as I can see...There is nothing wrong with MAKING Christmas cookies...My problem has always been EATING the Christmas cookies that I bake.

Personally...I'm not trying to have anything in my house that I can not be comfortable eating...So this year I plan to skip the whole Christmas cookie baking thing.

When I am craving stuff like that I make a batch and take it into work! Then I feel obligated to only eat 1 or 2 so others can eat them too! Good Luck!

If you really want to overcome the holiday temptations then I wouldn't recommend baking them at all. But if you must, then it's really all about will power. Cutting out sugar from recipes is really easy, could probably get away with cutting a little butter as well.

    Just say "Not today."

We like to make sugar cookies with Ricotta cheese in the recipe. They are healthier, but I don't think that they are low calorie.
I will make them eventually during the holiday season; and I will enjoy them. What helps me sometimes is to just say "not today." Because I know I will get to have some sometime in the next 2 months, I feel ok about postponing my indulgence.

As someone else said, life is full of Christmases. Yesterday I baked ahead of time for a cookie exchange later in the season, and aside from the tastes for husband and kid, it all went into the freezer. When I have a holiday meal here, I will have some. This may work for you. I'm one of those people who can have it around, though, as long as I don't take the first one.

Amen!!! There is nothing worse than waking up dazed in the morning...finding an empty cookie container and those tell-tale cookie crumbs around your mouth.

LOL! Ahahahah! That's like the past 4 years of my life summed up! <3
  • Thanks everybody!!! i think I will only make them once instead of multiple times this season!! also maybe a smaller batch will not leave them lingering around!!! I went with homemade applesauce yesterday!! delicious.

Shortbread is my weakness at Christmas. And I can't wait to start baking!

My husband loves anything sweet so it's never a huge problem for me to do baking and only eat one or two - which I'm slowly learning to do. But I do always log the recipes on MFP and go as far as counting how many cookies go in the oven. That way I get an accurate calorie count and can incorporate them into my diet if I want.
