Three months in - 38 pounds gone

Today is exactly three calendar months since I started MFP on 11th August so I thought now is the time to give a progress report
My start weight was 17stones 2lbs [240lbs], my BMI was in the Obese area and my trouser waist was 44 inches, with my belt buckle on it’s last hole before I had to buy another, larger, belt
My eventual goal is to knock 5 stones [70lbs] off, to be comfortable at 12 stones 2lbs [170lbs]. Which is also well within my healthy BMI range
After setting up MFP, sedentary, with very little exercise apart from casual walking to shops, I opted for a 2lb weekly loss, which gave me around 1250 calories per day. I have stuck to this, but did set up a spreadsheet to average out the weekly calorie intake to allow for the odd splurge, day out etc
I am very pleased with how it has worked out. My weight has gradually dropped down, and the first real clue I had about body shape reverting was my belt buckle hole marching backwards
I then got into my previous trousers, 42 inch waist without a struggle, and now am in my 40 inch waist ones. My belt is on it’s final, minimum, hole as well. My BMI is now in the Overweight instead of Obese, all little goals along the way down.
My next target is “Onederland” which I anticipate will be sometime either later this week or next, only 2 lbs away from there at present
I still have a fair way to go, around 30 plus pounds before I am at my pre fat waist size of 36 inches. I expect to reach this sometime late February or March, hopefully in time for my 70th birthday in April
I am looking forward to what I hope will be a super NSV day on Tuesday when I go along to the Practice Nurse for a weigh in, she has seen me gradually get fatter & fatter for the last 4 years or so, and has had a thankless task of trying to get this fat old bloke to take charge of his knife & fork, so I hope to surprise her for once.
MFP has been very good, and I really admire those who have made much more of an effort than I have had to do, my weight & inches loss is very minor compared with many on here, but I hope my tale may just help some to see it is not impossible once you really want to do it

Congratulations! That is terrific! I don't know how you've done it or what I am doing wrong. I did this for 3 months and only
dropped 10 lbs and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any advice would be very appreciated. I stopped after about 4 months
of doing this then put that weight back on and more and trying it again. I only have 1200 calories a day and I don't get
a lot of exercise. I try to walk the dog a few times a week and I don't enjoy drinking water so I don't know if the water thing is my
downfall. I don't know why it is so hard for me to drop this weight. I have to lose about 40 lbs and it would be great to be successful
like you were after only 3 months!
Thanks

Diane - like you I do not drink water for the sake of it, I include all drinks but do not try and glug liquid down just because mfp says so, I drink mostly tea without sugar, never been a fan of carbonated drinks, like cola, so do not drink them
I do not watch my "macros" like some on here, I just eat fresh fruit & veg with plenty of salads,I try & avoid too many starchy items, like bread, pasta, rice & potatoes, but only because they are high in calories for the weight / quantity
I may be fortunate because as a wartime baby we had food rationing until 1953, so I never developed a craving for sugar or sweet things [hard to do on 2 ounces per week], thus I do not want the sort of items many find tempting, like cream cakes, doughnuts, chocolate etc
It did not stop me getting fat though, beer, bacon baguette plus fish & chips did the job just fine:drinker: and they are some of the items I do miss, there is no such thing as a low calorie bacon baguette0 -

Gosh, I always think of that as "knocking the socks off the doctor!" It never occured to me that we could also knock the panty hose off the nurse! Please let us know what she has to say.0 -
Congratulations on your success. It is stories like yours that keep me motivated and they let me know that I too can do this. Good luck on the rest of your journey!0

You have done really well, and it is great to see those inches come off. Really needed to hear that today, as I have been on a plateau for a bit,and even started going up again in weight and some of the measurements I take, as I am so busy at the moment it is difficult to plan properly! I really think, Diane, that exercise is part of the key... even moving my arms and legs when stuck in a traffic jam ore waiting for the level crossing to go up, all burns those cals up. And having non-chocolate days on Mon/Tues and Thurs/Friday, is really helping me control my craving for choccies!0

Good on you - that's an amazing loss in such a short space of time. You should take a photo of your nurse's face when you see her - that would be priceless!0
