Need to stay on track...

Hey guys I lost 8.5 pounds this week and it was my first week on MFP. It sounds like a lot but I started at 220 and this always happens during my first week of any diet. Eventually I usually end up just giving up but I want so bad for this time to be different. So far there's no signs of me giving up but just need some pointers on staying on track. Anyone have any for me? Anyone want to be friends? I can always use more motivation and motivate others to! (:

The first and biggest one is Patience. I started this thinking I would do it for a year. Yes, a whole year. The way I was eating and living before was making me fatter so why not try something different. 365 days are going to pass whether you stick to eating right or not. Why not try something new? It can't hurt.
Second. One bad day/week does not derail all of your efforts. If you eat a 500 calorie deficit for 6 days and over eat one day 1000 calories, you are still eating in deficit for the week. Starting out, I focused more on my weekly deficit so I feel less deprived if one day a week I decide to have rum and pizza for dinner.
Third. If you have to start slow to keep you on track, do it. When I first started, my biggest change was instead of ordering a big mac meal at mcdonalds, I would order a regular hamburger and fries. Then I would buy single serving size meals like Spaghetti-O's or beef stew so keeping track of my calories would be easy. After that, I wanted to eat more food for my calorie buck. Now I'm at a point where I eat 3 servings of vegetables a meal and huge salads. Sometimes for lunch, I'll just buy a big bag of salad mix and eat the whole thing.
Last. The weight on the scale is not the be all and end off of your progress. It can go up and down with sodium, TOM and even drinking a cup of water. Take pictures, measurements and keep track of how long you can run (or whatever exercise you like) to measure your real progress. Also, find exercise you enjoy. You'll be more apt to stick with it.
Good luck and happy weight loss! :drinker:0
