Nutrition Opinions - 1 week before a 5km mud run

Hi guys,

This will be my first ever attempt at a mud run - it's only 5km and I am just wondering what people would suggest a nutritional diet looked like pre-event. Should I up my protein intake for the week? increase certain foods? decrease certain foods?

I''m not sure if a 5km run is worth changing my nutrition around drastically for - however I have got a 10km one two weeks after!

Thanks!

I don't think you need to change your nutrition for a 5K and probably not for a 10 if you are eating well to start with.

Only recommendation would be to eat with NO deficit for about 2 or 3 days before the event, to confirm your glucose stores are totally topped off.

If you gain 1 lb in 2 days, it indeed means you were low 500 calories worth of carbs now stored with water.

It also implies you are eating too little for your level of activity to not have replenished stores.
  • Definitely carb up the days prior to the run.

Also consider taking taurine and beta alanine supplements.
