How do you cook Tofu????
I recently bought some tofu at Trader Joes because the price was good. I got it home and realized that I have no idea how you are suppossed to cook it. I have had it before but it was always prepared for me. What are some ways to cook it and maybe some recipes I can use it in??? Thanks in advance!

It depends on what kind you purchased. Miso soup is one way to use it (silken tofu) and the seaweed has some awesome nutrients. If you have the more solid one, you can marinate it with some soy ginger and garlic then bake or stir fry. Tofu is pretty tasteless but will take on the flavor of whatever you cook it with. Good luck!0

I marinate mine in light teriyaki sauce for about 15 minutes or so then I cut it up in cubes and stir fry it with frozen stir fry veggies. Very good and It will keep you full. Good luck.0

Here's a recipe for Tofu Satay w/ Peanut Dipping sauce it is awesome trust me, oh and extra firm or firm tofu would be perfect:
Marinade
1/2 small onion
2 cloves garlic
2 cm ginger
2 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon soy sauce or fish sauce
1 tsp coriander
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp tumeric
Peanut Dipping Sauce
3/4 cup coconut milk (light if you wanted to cut cals)
4 tablespoons peanut butter
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon soy sauce or fish sauce
1/2 tsp coriander
1/2 tsp cumin
1-2 red chilis or a pinch of cayanne
* Put marinade ingredients in blender and puree. Cover long strips of meat and marinate overnight. If making tofu marinate for 2 hours.
In a skillet or on grill cook tofu until browned. For meat skewer and cook until done. While meat is cooking combine sauce ingredients into saucepan and heat until the peanut butter is completely melted and thouroughly mixed.
The nutritional information will vary with this recipe depending on what kind of meat you cook.
The sauce made with lite coconut milk for 2 tablespoons is 61cal, 5.2 gram fat, 2.7 carb0 -
I like to make a tofu in a hoisin sauce with shredded cabage and carrots. I will sometimes put it in an asian style pancake or cook it with rice0

I also like to make cold noodle salad with tofu with this marinade:
* cube tofu
1/4 cup soysauce or fish sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
5 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (or pinch of cayanne)
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons chopped garlic
1 tablespoon chopped ginger
You don't have to cook the tofu just marinate for 2-4 hours. Cook pot of soba or udon noodles add steamed veggies, tofu and marinade to noodles and you have a great cold asain noodle salad. Top with toasted sesame seed and enjoy!0 -
Here's one of my faves:
Tofu and Broccoli Stir Fry
Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 (14 1/2 ounce) package firm tofu, drained, cut crosswise into 6 slabs (about 3/4 inch wide) and then cut in half horizontally
1 1/2 lbs broccoli, stalks trimmed, peeled, and cut into 1/4-inch rounds
coarse salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 cup cashews, toasted
Directions:
1. Arrange tofu in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with several layers of paper towels. Top with more paper towels and another baking sheet; weight with canned goods. Let tofu drain, about 20 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, cook broccoli (stalks and florets) in a large pot of boiling salted water until bright green, 2 minutes. Drain; set aside.
3. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add tofu; cook until golden brown, turning gently halfway through, 10 to 15 minutes. Transfer to paper towels.
4. Meanwhile, make sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, vinegar, red-pepper flakes, garlic, cornstarch, and 3/4 cup water; set aside.
5. Add broccoli to skillet; cook over high heat, stirring often, until crisp-tender, 2 to 3 minutes. Whisk reserved sauce to combine; pour into pan. Return tofu to pan; stir to coat, about 1 minute more. Serve topped with cashews.

I haven't made this since joining MFP so I haven't added the info. into the database yet. Also, you can make it lower sodium by using a low sodium soy sauce.0
