calorie spikes and plummets...normal? healthy?

I've been doing mpf for a few weeks now and notice that every 3 or 4 days my cals are WAY up. It seems to even out over time, because some days (usually following the spikes) my cals are way down. Is this normal? Should I try to keep it more even, or not be concerned? I was trying not to stay within 300 of my goal, but it's not working out like that.
