logging exercise

Do you log your exercise?

When I work out and log it - it gives me more calories to eat. I really don't want to eat more calories than 1200. But I know that they say something about starvation mode. How do you know if you fall into that mode?

Thoughts?

    MFP is set up so that you are supposed to eat those calories burned through exercise, bringing your NET calories for the day to 1200. You are still eating at a deficit by doing so. Eating just 1200 and then burning off however many through exercise doesn't leave a lot in your tank, so to speak. Food is fuel!

    Do a search for 'eAting exercise calories' and you will find loads if posts on this. A lot of people eat back about half of the calories. Many feel MFP overestimates calorie burn. I thing general opinion is that you should eat at least some if them back. I know that if I'm only eating low calories, I can't do it for long without binging. Ve now upped mine to 1450 and am wily losing weight but am much more in control of my eating as I don't feel t deprived.

    You don't have to eat all of them back. If you eat 1400 and then burn 400, just eat 200 back to get up to 1200.

    I have some friends who don't eat any of them back (as long as they're still over 1200 net), so they change the "calories burned" to 1 so MFP doesn't subtract a big number.
  • It depends on how you set your calories up, and whether it already includes exercise or not.

    Whatever you do, log exercise as exercise, not cleaning, cooking, farting, etc....

    Did you use MFP to calculate your daily calorie goal? If you did, then exercise calories make up part of your recommended total daily calorie allowance, so it would be wise to eat at least some of them.

    If you use another system to work out your calorie goal, check to see if they have already included exercise - which most other systems do.
