eating my calories and...gaining?

hi all. been having a problem recently and would love any help or advice here.

up until about two weeks ago, ever since i started MFP i have been leaving as many calories as i can (over 1,200) at the end of my day. some days its a lot, some days its nothing, but i would say an average of about 200-300 calories a day leftover. as of two weeks ago, i have been trying to eat all of my calories, or get as close as i can to it. since i have done this, i have stayed the same and possibly gained ( weigh in tomorrow) why is this happening to me? i thought the point was to eat the calories you are given, so why must i leave some leftover everyday to meet my 2 pound a week goal?

am possibly gaining because my body is "hoarding" my calories, thinking it was starving before? (this was not intentional, i am STILL trying to figure out how this whole thing works :) if this is the case, what is my next step and how do i prevent future weight gain just from my daily calorie consumption goal??

thanks y'all!

No, your body is returning to it's normal state. I don't know how long you been at 1200 calories, but long term severe calorie deficits can hinder metabolic function.

your calculations could be off with how many you need or how many you burn or even both

keep eating good keep burning and make small adjustments

time and patience with time is the main reason most people fail at this...they have no patience

check as many sites as you can to get your correct TDEE and subtract 20%. this is your NET goal

estimate low on your calories burned...MFP guesses for calories burned are absurdly high in most cases
