I need a good hard kick in the butt....

Over the last few weeks, I have felt myself getting more and more lazy when it comes to exercising. I had a knee injury, which had me stop the process of the 30DS.... which I loved. I was trying to push through the pain... but, that just made the pain worse. So... I finally quit for a while (with the plans to start again when my knee improved). I kept walking my dogs, though... and doing some upper body strength training. Slowly... that changed to just walking my dogs. Now... I'm barely doing that.

The time just changed... which makes it dark (or almost dark) by the time I get off from work each day. By the time I get home, and changed, there's not enough time to walk without it being completely dark. There's still plenty of things I can do inside... but, I'm finding myself getting depressed over the shorter days... and just not doing anything.

I really need a good kick in the butt to get going again. I have everything ready to change and go straight to the gym after work today. That's the plans, at least. I am not going to allow myself to get any lazier. I'm not going to give up.

I think we can all relate Amber - personally, I had a double leg surgery (sounds worse than it was) this summer that kept me wheelchair bound for awhile and inactive for far longer than I liked...And of course the time/weather change doesn't help. But here are a few things I do to keep me going...

    1) working out in the morning/during my lunch break instead of at night. This way I know I have already accomplished something!

    2) yoga - the stretching is great, but I have found myself calmer and more mentally focused. I don't know if it's the yoga or just spending time focusing on me!

    3) variety of workouts - I get bored fast. I mean really fast. Right now I designed a 7 day cardio circuit combined with a strength training split into upper body/lower body/plyo days. This workout is hard and not for everyone, but it keeps me entertained and excited to get into better shape.

    4) planning my meals - fitness isn't just made in the gym. You have to eat healthy too.

    5) motivation/rewards - I love the feeling of my legs about to give out after a hard workout, but seeing my clothes fit better and having the guy I'm seeing absolutely swoon over my legs...well that helps too!

The bottom line (to me at least)...is that no one can keep you going but yourself...but MFP is a great tool to use and if you ever need a friend to give a little extra kick in the butt...well, feel free to add me!

I also find going in the morning really helpful. I know myself too well to fool myself into believing I'm going to get it done after a full day of work. But another great thing is the energized, proud feeling you get when you've finished your workout early. It starts the rest of the day off on the right note, even if I have to get up at 4:30 in the morning to do it!
  • Here is your big kick in the butt>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>... You can do this! I have to get a kick in the buttocks ofter, been off of MFP for several weeks, but tried to eat right and lost 8 lbs.... We can do this!! An injury can make you lose motivation, but we are all here to pick you back up and help you succeed!! Feel free to add me if you like.
