Too Much Fiber?

Coming from the world of Weight Watchers, I was told that you can never have too much fiber. I eat a lot of foods that are high in fiber because I see them also being low in fat.
MFP tells me EVERYDAY that I am over on fiber.
Can someone tell me is there such thing as too much fiber in your diet? & if yes, what does too much fiber do to your body?
Thank you!

MFP's values for protein and fiber are known to be REALLY low. I figure the more the better of those two...I'm usually at least 30 grams of fiber over for the day and 40 grams of protein over. Don't worry, it won't impact your weight loss, actually it will help it!0

I adjusted my MFP Fiber setting to 35 because I thought their's was just waaaay too low. I me some Fiber. Toot! Toot!0

Fibre is essentially a natural laxative. It aids digestion and bowel functionality. If you don't get enough you'll struggle to process food well, if you get too much then you may find it processes a little too well, so to speak. I try to get at least 25g a day. If you're going a lot above 40 you might notice something, but ultimately if you're working ok then don't worry about it.0

I actually strive to be over my fiber and protein everyday. I strive for 30grams of fiber daily...I even take metamucil every morning to help me get there. So, I would agree with everyone. Fiber is essential to weight loss. The only issue that arises with fiber is that you make sure you're drinking enough water to make sure it's flushed out of your system. Try and drink half of your body weight in ounces (but I'm sure you already knew that).

I usually have 40-50g fiber per day. Just make sure you're drinking enough water too or it could stop you up.0

I've had days that I had 95g of fiber. Didn't kill me. Didn't "notice" anything. If you get lot of fiber like that, drink a lot :-)0

MFP is really low on this number... you should have at least 25-30g of fiber... the only way it really could effect you is to prevent bowel movements, if that happens drink up some water, cut your fiber down for a day and you should be good to go.0

You CAN have too much fiber, but you would have to try really, really, really hard to get there. MFP fiber goals are set very low.0

Well i had an issue last year that my doctor told me was from to much fiber vs not enough water for the amount of fiber... Keep in mind i was drinking 64 oz of water a day plus a few more glasses at night.... But my skin was super dry and was peeling off like i had a sun burn... i thought i had some kind of skin condition... but i was shedding my skin like a snake lol.... so gross! Well the moment i cut back on the fiber it stopped... for those of you who will ask.. i was over by double of what was required.0

Unless you are having gastric distress, you're not getting too much fiber. The benchmark on MFP is a minimum, not a maximum.0

I treat the fibre goal as a minimum, not as a number to stay under. I think a lot of other people do too. Kinda like with the calcium number - I treat it as a minimum to hit.0

It would be hard to get too much fiber from food. You'd probably have to take a lot of fiber supplements to get enough to cause problems.0

You're not "over your fiber", you've just exceeded the recommended minimum set by MFP. It doesn't matter if it's good or bad, if you go over the macro it turns red.0

Thanks guys! I will continue to kepp my fiber "in the red" on my diary! Thanks!0
