costco hotdog

Should I even bother?
My weakness is costco hotdogs from the food court (not very healthy at all - I know!) We are heading there tonight and I was hoping to work one into my daily calories. Even though it will be within my calories for the day I still feel like it will hinder my weight loss. What's your not so healthy food weakness?

Hot dogs are pretty great for weight loss, actually. When you're out and about and hungry, they provide a filling, protein-rich option. They aren't a health food by any means, but they are a great PORTION SIZE. Besides, the whole point of tracking calories is that you can have the stuff you like as long as you fit it in under your goal.

love costco hot-dogs! Had one last night :) And usually have one when my husband and I go to costco...so maybe once a month. But it fills me up and it is all I eat for dinner for 500 calories :)

Why would it hinder your weight loss if you're staying within your calories?

I love hotdogs.......they're not the healthiest choice on the planet but, in moderation, they're good for your soul.
  • I am not even usually a huge fan of hotdogs but Costco ones are all beef and oh so delicious! I have worked it out so I will be eating tons of veggies today, so I won't feel as guilty with the hotdog lol

Great! Now I want a hot dog... :grumble:

Although, if it fits in your macros for the day and it will satisfy your craving, why the heck not?
  • My dad says that too! That hot dogs are good for the soul :)
I am not sure why I worry if I am within calories.. I suppose because the weight I have lost so far I have done eating very clean. I am for sure getting a hot dog tonight lol

 Exactly! I can still easily eat like 4 at a time - and if I'm going to dive off the deep end of a hot dog, just make it a chili cheese dog with onions & relish too

If you planned for it, then stay with that plan! Make sure you factor in the beverage.
  • Costco hot dogs are HUGE.. I am usually comfortably full after one :) and all beef ! I just checked at it's 550 calories for one. The fat content is high, but I adjusted my day to fit it in perfectly! Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Other than the sodium, I don't see how it would affect your weight loss more than anything else of the same calorie count. I'd still suggest skipping it because hot dogs are crap, though.

Lifestyle change not a diet - if you enjoy it plan it into your day and enjoy! :flowerforyou:

I believe identifying a food as a weakness indicates a bad relationship with food. I don't feel guilty about anything that I eat. If you have it worked into your daily macros, then it isn't going to hurt your physical fitness, and most likely will be cathartic for your brain and prevent you from bingeing when real temptation comes along.

Now if you are asking what food do I love more than anything else... well that would always be chocolate.

You are aware you can still eat foods you enjoy, right?

Hate hot dogs, but one of my weaknesses are the fried chicken tenders in the deli case at my local supermarket. They recently changed the recipe and they are amazing. I used to treat myself once a week on my weekly shopping trip, but now I am able contain myself. In fact I don't think I've had any since my knee surgery in September. A special treat after not being able to eat all day.

One hot dog is plenty (as long as it's accompanied by a costco poutine......)

Wrong. I don't think I've ever had more than one hot dog at a time. Sometimes I only use half the bun because they're too darn thick and completely dominate the meat.
