Anyone into organic foods/green smoothies, etc.?

I'm looking for friends who are into eating organically with lots of greens, fruits & veggies, non-GMO -- you know, trying to stick to really clean eating. I've been on MFP for almost a year and am feeling a little alone in my eating habits. Anyone want to join me?

Hello
Very much so! Have been mostly organic for about 10 or 12 years, about 95% organic for about 6 or 7. Just getting into eating clean just now- especially cleaning up a lot of refined sugar. Got married in June and got a juicer and a blender, so dipping into juices. Really enjoyed Jillian Michael's "Master your Metabolism" which is basically eat organic and clean. Been losing a steady 1lb a week since starting on it.0 -
I recently went to a vegan diet. I do green smoothies occasionally. I am enjoying it and feel better even though I just started last Friday.0

I eat a lot of fresh foods & buy organic - I'm not perfect & am a work in progress but would love to have more friends that have a clean diet as well! :flowerforyou:0

Fantastic! I'd love to be friends with you both!0

I eat mostly organic. But I was the most obese when I was 100% organic. I've gained tremendous freedom letting it go (just a little) knowing it won't kill me to eat a low carb tortilla (I'm not low carb! Been there and done that too!) for one meal (full calorie bread at another meal), or some fat free cheese for one meal on occasion, in the name of keeping my calorie budget without going insane. I do stick with mostly organic, I LOVE it, but sometime the calorie budget AND financial budget don't allow for it and it's nice to know I'm not going to die because of it on occasion.0 -

I agree, too. Being too rigid about all this does me in every time. I've been getting organic farm shares to ease the cost a bit -- makes it a little easier on my budget. I love eating this way, though. Makes me feel like I'm somehow on the right track.0 -
I don't know where all you ladies live but you should try a bountiful basket. You can google it for your state. Awesome deal. For us, it's $15 for a huge basket full of fresh fruits and veggies. The basket changes every week. They are awesome and I would recommend them highly!
And they have add ons you can do for not a lot extra (Thanksgiving pack with extra herbs, potatoes, etc and fruit boxes such as apples, oranges, pomegranites, bread loves, cookies). Amazing!!!0 -
Sounds wonderful! Definitely worth pursuing.0

They are!!
And if you volunteer to help sort the food into baskets you get an additional bonus item that you get to pick.
Good luck and let me know what you think when you do it!0 -
I do green smoothies. But, I never got into the organic thing. 15 years ago I picked tomatoes for a farmer in Northern Cali. There was a rule, the nearly ripe, pretty tomatoes would get the organic sticker the rest would get the regular. I always wondered how many people thought they were eating organic when they weren't.0

Yup, especially as some suppliers think they can rip you off and just milk the organic profit margin...but then there are so many producers and suppliers who are obviously doing it for the right reasons themselves, because they believe in it and they tend to have better stuff anyway. All things in moderation, even moderation!0 -
I know, it's so scary. That's why my husband and I get most of our fruit and veggies straight from a nearby organic farm. Although, I admit, I eat Trader Joe's organic frozen fruit. I often wonder if I'm being duped. Safeway Organics, too -- I get suspicious of these large corporations. Meanwhile, we do what we can. I think you're right, to get too stressed about it is worse in the long run.I do green smoothies. No, I only do that on a part-time basis. I do recommend hemp seeds though, if you are doing that type of diet full-time.0
