Treadmill calorie count

I've been doing the C25K program (just finished it last week). I usually run on the treamill and was wondering how accurate the "calories burned" are on it when I complete my workout?

I do a 5 minute "brisk" walk at 3.5 to 3.8 mph on a 3.0 incline and then run the 30 minutes at 6mph on a 3.0 incline, then cool down for 5 minutes and the treamill says I burn about 550 to 600 calories (sometimes I run a little longer).

I've been logging the calories that are stated on my treadmill but should I err on the side of caution and reduce it?

Thanks for the help!

I think it differs person to person based on your fitness level so its hard to say. =(

I started running exactly 1 week ago and have logged exactly what the treadmill told me and ate those back.
This past week I lost more than my weekly average of weight - so I think I actually burn more than the treadmill tells me at this point since I've never been a runner. Others with HRMs say that the treadmill over-estimates.

Best way to find out is to get an HRM... or do trial and error like I did lol =)

+1 on getting a heart rate monitor but to give your treadmill's numbers a sanity check here's a formula from runner's world (http://www.runnersworld.com/weight-loss/how-many-calories-are-you-really-burning-0?page=single)

Gross calories running: .75 x your weight per mile
Net calories running .63 x your weight per mile (ie calories burned directly as a result of the activity - above and beyond your BMR)

Based on the incline of 3.0 your results could well be higher than the above formula would predict.
