Anyone see a problem with doing the 30 day shred bare footed? I seem to balance better without shoes on and wonder if it would hurt/

I've done almost all of Jillian's video barefoot in my carpeted family room with no problems. I use an extra mat, hand weights, lifting gloves and kettlebells but always barefoot...0

i found my ankles hurt a little from some of the cardio when I was doing it barefooted (jumping jacks, high knees, etc.)
but everyone is different, so if you experience no pain then do it however suits you!0 -
cool, thanks!0

I would not recommend bare feet for 30DS. With all the high impact exercises, you can easily strain a muscle in your foot or toes. All it takes is one wrong move. Shoes are made to protect your feet muscles and joints. I wonder about your ability to balance better without shoes? Have you paid a visit to an orthopedist?0

So long as you have no problems and you spend a good deal of time barefoot around the house you should have no problems; make sure you land lightly through the ball of your feet.
Barefoot is liberating. shoes can actually make your feet and ankles weaker, leading to the problems they are meant to protect against.0 -
oh i forgot to mention also that the lunges and such put more strain on your feet when going barefoot0

Much easier to d it barefooted!0 -
I tried it barefoot, but I did not feel like my ankles had the proper support, so I put on my running shoes. I found it to be more comfortable, but everyone is different.0

The barefoot theory is that shoes makes your muscles weak because they take all the impact and make you land in a particular way. Barefoot or minimalist shoes make your core work harder to stay balanced and strenghten up the muscles in your legs and feet. Go for it I say.0

I do everything barefoot or in minimalist shoes. I hate sneakers and boots, sometimes don't have a choice though. My work shoes are Merril minimalist mary janes, and I have Vibram running shoes and don't wear any shoes at all doing my JM DVDs. Ripped in 30, 30DS, and Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism.0

I agree. If you have been wearing shoes all your life and you want to go barefoot on 30DS, I would do a couple of weeks walking around the home and garden first to give your feet and ankles a chance to regain strength and go easily and lightly on your first sessions. Barefoot is great - you won't look back!0

I do it barefoot but I have thought about putting on shoes for better support.0

I would agree with this. It may not seem to hurt at first, but after a few days, that might change. I did it barefoot for a few days the first time. Everything seemed to be fine. Then all of a sudden I got a really bad shin splint (didn't know what it was at the time). With shoes on, that doesn't happen.0 -
I've done several of her videos barefoot. I never even thought about putting shoes on. I guess I'm used to martial arts, haha.0

I've been thinking about doing the workout barefoot as well. I always kick my shoes off during the stretching anyway. And I can do more full push ups in bare feet than I can in shoes. I did Zumba on the Kinect today barefoot and it seemed easier since the tread on my shoes didn't catch on the carpet.0

I've always worked out barefoot at home. It makes for stronger, more stable feet and ankles.
(remember, we weren't born wearing shoes. they're a cultural invention to keep our feet safe and clean from the world)0 -

Actually, your foot evolved to help you balance long before shoes were created. Wearing shoes reduces your ability to use the muscles in your feet to help you balance. It makes perfect sense that the OP can balance better without shoes.
Also, all of the other muscles in your body work better when you exercise them, why wouldn't the muscles in your feet be the same way (assuming you build up over time)?0 -

I always do it barefoot! For me, it's just so wrong to wear shoes indoors, so I've never even considered putting on shoes.0

I don't know but I'm interested in what everybody else has to say. (I do 30 DS barefoot.)0

same for me, I kept slipping when doing lunges , found it a lot easier barefoot. Mind you I have only done 2 days lol0
