What do you all think of carb blockers for the occasional day off a low carb diet... Say once a week/two?
Has anyone tried them, and if so do they work? Are they safe :/

P.S add me if your doing low carb too :)

They really aren't going to provide any benefit over a good balanced diet (this actually goes for all pills). Your low calorie diet is going to hurt you more long term than carbs will.

Yea, because its the carb blocker doing all the work, not the well balanced diet, conscious individual or physical activity! SMH!

If you opt for a Carb blocker type product, you should check out CarbEase from AdvoCare. Completely backed by science and research. I use it on occasion as well and can tell a difference in my love-handles since I started adding it in a day or two a week.

Can you put a link up to the research please?

    thanks!

Oh, I'm sure the SCIENCE is irrefutable...rock solid...

...it's just that advertising like this isn't allowed. The typical approach these MLMers use is to invite people to contact them by PM and *then* lead them to their website. Sure, that's just as against the rules, but it's a lot less blatant.

I would steer clear of magic pills myself. Got tempted by one at Sam's Club one time and then read the bottle warning that it would be dangerous to anyone under 30 years-of-age. If these magic pills need warnings like that, they should be considered dangerous.

Stick to your supplements, sure. But weight-loss in a pill sounds like dangerous science to me.

You should take the long-view that your health is more than a number on a scale. Long-term, your desire is to change your relationship to food in a way that will create better health. Working in an agreeable exercise regimen is also important. I would suggest walking with some form of entertainment to pass the time. Audiobooks is a great way to expand your horizons while you exercise. SimplyAudiobooks is the Netflix of audiobooks.

Lifestyle changes are the key. Quick fixes and magic pills are not a longterm solution. You need to develop habits that will _keep the weight off_ and not just shed it quickly.

We all want to lose the weight quickly, but the slower you lose it (and the healthier your methods) the better your long-term progress is likely to be.

Yay, MFP mods for killing the advertising post.

Now everyone else needs to edit it out of theirs...

...or else the MFP mods will be all up in your posts making stuff disappear...

    ...and nobody wants that.

    ETA: Too late.

Despite the hooha above, I'd like to address your question.

Personally, throughout the last two years I have tried all sorts of diet pill; fat blockers, carb blockers etc.
And although they may make you lose weight for like a week or so, it's kinda stalls in the long run and once you stop using them, the weight just keeps piling on, back to where you were, and often, plus a little more.

Have I tried carb blockers? Yes. Do they work? For about a week max, and then not anymore. So overall, no, even if you only plan to use them occasionally. Are they safe? No, and I can go through the list of side effects I had experience, but in a nutshell, although they didn't do permanent damage as far as I know, they aren't totally safe.

I think it all goes back to what your fitness goals are, and your impression of "fit" is.

When I was on countless pills (hell i feel sorry for my body now that I think of it), I may lose like 10-20 lbs in like a month, but I looked like a deflated balloon really. Lacked energy, and just looked really unhealthy. The pill too became a crutch (imagine the money spent on those) even after it became useless.

Now that I put my foot down, and went back to the traditional, food moderation and exercise, I recently lost about 19 lbs (hell in like about a little over 3 months, but patience is a virtue) and I feel strong, I actually see muscles, I breath better, and just overall feel good about myself. My weight loss is only dependent on me, and not on some crutch that may or may not work.

With you only needing 10 lbs to lose, you have already gone so far without it (congrats!) just keep doing what you are doing. All the best!

    From WebMD:

    http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/the-truth-about-starch-blockers
Starch blockers probably do allow complex carbohydrates to pass through the small intestine largely undigested, says Christine Gerbstadt, MD, RD, an American Dietetic Association spokeswoman.

“But when they get to the large intestine, the starches ferment, give off gas, and cause bloating and diarrhea,” Gerbstadt tells WebMD.

Gerbstadt says she doesn't recommend using starch blockers because there haven't been enough tests done in people showing that the products help.

Obesity expert Louis Aronne, MD, says his patients usually don't stick with starch blockers for long.

“We just don’t see people taking stuff like this on an ongoing basis. When patients come in taking a carb blocker, they end up stopping either because of the side effects or because of lack of effectiveness, or both,” says Aronne, who directs the Comprehensive Weight Control Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

MacKay stresses that it's important not to rely only on supplements for weight loss. As he puts it, those products "are not magic bullets," and a healthy diet and exercise are also needed for successful weight loss.

"If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” MacKay writes.

Do carb blockers cause anal leakage like fat blockers?

Why do you want to block carbs? Carbs are important part of your diet. Eat the carbs. Enjoy them!

Thanks for sharing an experts opinion. It's so tempting, especially when young, to believe in magic weight loss!
