Barbell Hip thrusts.

Let's discuss. Would you find it odd to see someone doing this in gym? I've never seen anyone do it in my gym, and as a woman in a gym full of mostly men (or boys) I feel 'um odd.

I have not seen anyone doing this move in my gym. If they did, I would be like, 'Damn, that chick is bad *kitten*.'

I'm sure you've already set a precedence in your gym that you're there to kick *kitten*, so I think you'd be totally legit to do it.
  • I would have wayyy too much fun doing this in a gym. *snicker* I do them at home. Not so much fun without an audience. *kicks rock*

    That's ridiculous.

    As in ridiculously hot.

    Do it.

I do them at home too. I think I'd be ok with doing them at the gym... most people snicker at the idea of it. I guess it would depend on how crowded the gym is... and it might be best to face AWAY from guys while doing it. That might help :)

I wouldn't find them odd but then, I do them myself. But my husband does like to come in the garage and watch.

I remember years ago when I went to a gym to lift there were a few people (men and women) who did them. If I recall, the only ones who really looked were the people who stuck to the cardio area.

It might raise a few eyebrows. But wearing what she's wearing would probably drop a few jaws.

Is there a variation using dumbbells? I'd like to try it, but I don't have a set of barbells yet, and I don't go to a gym.

    Anyone?

I've done it in mine. People look but who cares? It's a great glute and ham workout.

You can do it by setting a dumbbell on your hips. That's how I started.

I think they look awesome but have thought the same thing. I'll do it if you do it.

I'd guess just put the dumbbells in your lap somehow. I did it with plates first.

That might be easier than doing it with the dumbbells. At least until I can get my barbells...

I would do them like that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jGSMv8zbeE

I wouldn't rest my back on the dumbbell rack though, lol.

I've done them twice now, even had a girlfriend of mine doing them with me the first time.

^^^ This guy got me doing these many months ago, although I use 25-40lb dumbbells on each hip since I don't have a barbell at home. Love them.

i did them for the first time on friday @ 135lbs. the men around me gave me some weird looks, and one or two looked like they thought i was hurting myself and wanted to come to help me.

the women on the other hand were salivating.

I do them. I look up at the ceiling and do not make eye contact with anyone while I do, but I do them.

Try doing pullthoughs - I think they are more embarrassing as its harder to avoid eye contact with anyone and you are usually in the middle of the gym.

LOL, I was sitting under the bar one time, resting between sets, and a guy approached me and asked if I needed help getting up.

i was doing the same!!! I was sitting with my legs under the bar, leaning back against the bench, breathing heavy, guy gave me a quick look and started walking over, but then i started my next set so i guess he put two and two together.

A girl in my gym does them. One time she was doing them just behind where I was doing deadlifts, and from the mirror in front of me, it looked like she was humping my leg. I got the giggles and had to stop.

But then, I giggle a fair bit at the gym.
