Okay, I keep hearing about these noodles and have NO IDEA what they are. How are they used? Are they a good substitute for pasta in most dishes? Is there a site that anyone knows of that gives info? Where can you find them and how pricey are they typically? I feel so out of the loop! LOL I've been using whole wheat pasta with added healthy stuff (Ronzoni Whole Wheat Pasta) but it's still so high in calories! Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

I just tried them last week. A friend of mine bought them at a Japanese market and they were $1.99 canadian per package (1 portion per package). I hear you can buy them online or at health food stores. A lot of people use them as a substitue for pasta. I thought they tasted good (take on the taste of whatever you put on them). I just had an issue with the texture (a little like rubber). I hear that it doesn't take long to adjust to the texture so it's definetely worth a few tries. Good luck!0

$1.99 for a single portion is pretty pricey when I can get 7 portions out of a $1.29 package of the whole wheat stuff...hmmm...stinkin budgets!
Thanks for the info!0 -
I know it's crazy! On the package it says there is two portions, but trust me, one portion is less than a portion of pasta and we both know that's not a lot. Besides, there is only 40 cals for the whole package.
I believe you are in US, so maybe it's a little cheaper there? Personally, I think I'll stick to my pasta for now and just have less of it.
Good luck!:flowerforyou:0 -
I buy mine at whole foods store www.wholefoods.com I believe. That will show you where there is a store closest to you. They are 1.49 a bag and since I am the only one in my house who eats them and I eat it only once or twice a week it really isn't that expensive. Basically it is noodles that are easy to prepare (just rise add sauce and eat) and basically they just go through you. 40 calories helps out a lot when I don't have many calories left for the day but need to feel full or the rest of the family is eating something I can't tolerate caloriewise. I don't suggest you feed them to kids (it basically just fills you up) and can constipate you (there is a lot of fiber content) if you don't drink enough water. They are made out of yam flour and tofu. You can also buy them off the internet but shipping costs a lot especially for tofu ones b/c they are refrigerated. So I would suggest finding a store to buy them in. I use them just like regular noodles the spaghetti shaped are my favorite but if you are a texture person then you may have a problem with the al dente texture. There are many places to read about these on the internet just google-shirataki or tofu shirataki-or miracle noodles- www. house-foods.com - they make the tofu ones and will give you places to find them I suggest you try them I rarely eat regular pasta anymore. I also posted the nutrition facts into the database just look up shirataki. Oh and one bag is 8 oz and fills me up. Sometimes I eat half and load it with spaghetti sauce and grilled veggies. Hope this helps. -Heather-0
