If you want to get picky we can. He said "around" 20%. It's actually dependent on age.

I would also point out that your chart thinks 20% is UNDERFAT (aka - too lean) at any age for a woman.

Which is kind of funny! I'm at just a shade under 20% (19.5% to be exact) and I'm 41. I certainly don't think I look or feel UNDERFAT.

Those body fat ranges can't be right. I've used several different sites for calculation of my body fat and got something just over 31%, which all sites told me was obese, not just overweight, but obese.

I would think it's more likely the way you're measuring that can't be right. Online calculators are the WORST way to measure body fat. Have it done with calipers -- or better yet with a BodPod, DEXA scan or hydrostatically.

More likely, there was just a discussion end of summer to lower the ranges so that more would be classified as obese.

Maybe that was the BMI ranges though. Though it does reference the WHO BMI guidelines. So that is again the problem of trying to find bodyfat from BMI, and worse yet, trying to apply it to an individual rather than population group it was intended for.

Either way, purpose is more money of course. If more fall under obese, than some organization gets more money to fight the obesity epidemic.

That Gallagher study reference was from 1972, I'm sure that's been updated.
  • Hey everyone.
I'm trying to organize a workout routine and was wondering whether this 60 minute Youtube video would be good for me to put on some muscle/tone fat (as a beginner of strength training) Thanks

Seems too cardio. May be good to get balance down and workout.

But should switch to something like this that is for strength training directly.
