Morbid obesity and VLCD

This just broke my heart. I always think of the success stories on MFP and think morbidly obese people have really good choices and tools available. This piece makes it sounds like hell to lose weight and that starvation is part and parcel of the task. It honestly made me want to cry. Curious about if there are folks here with similar frustrations. She even mentions MFP in her article

    That was a very sad thing to read.

    Thing is, she chose to starve herself and chose to undergo surgery. She chose the more extreme and therefore more difficult way to lose the weight, which does surprise me as if she has an account on here, she must surely know you don't have to resort to VLCD.

    On the other hand, I do feel sorry for her in that people regularly have fad diets and useless weight-loss pills that make all the promises in the world waved in front of our faces on a regular basis. So sometimes it can be difficult to make the sensible and educated choices.

    For some obese people their metabolism is altered and keeping off the weight and eating normally appears to be almost impossible :(
