Okay heres the problem, I have two amazing personal statements (for university) BUT I want to do two completely different course
COURSE ONE : Business/ International business with a year abroad where I can work/study in places like America, Europe, Australia and South Africa (lived in South africa so not there, not Europe (nothing personal we're just too close!) so it would be America )
why this course ? erm Everytime I think about my future, I'm a business woman, I was born to do this !! I'd want end up in marketing or management and I do want to own my own business (yes, I do understand it is not all that simple and comes with crazy risks, and most business fail within the first three years). It gets my pulse racing (cos I'm that cool:blushing: ) and ohhh ! my dream
COURSE TWO : Criminology ...
why ? It is crazy fascinating, its mesmerising and so darn intriguing and being as inquisitive as I am, it'd be amazing, forensic science or criminology with law etc...so many options but I'd want to work with psychopaths. It gives me shivers just thinking about it. My passion.
please help me narrow it down to one, this list went from 10 to 2 in 3months
also I plan on taking a gap year and travelling and "exploring the world and my place in it", but I want to apply and defer, and could possibly apply for a uni in America (if I chose criminology) for the following year
p.s I do need to be employable after this :flowerforyou:

If you think you will go into business, pick business. if you want a career around crime, pick criminology. I know that's stating the obvious but no one can decide what you want to do with your life If you're really not sure, defer for a year. There are too many people wasting money and dropping out. However if you decide what you want to do then i'd say go straight into uni, don't waste money on a gap year, personally I get fed up of people saying 'travelling is more valuable than sitting in a lecture hall', ahem no it's not, a degree is much more valuable IF it's the right degree and you'll use it, and trust me- after an intense term at uni the summer is very long and dull, use that time to go abroad (: Also make sure you do your research properly into studying abroad- usually there are limited places/very few get selected and can cost quite a lot. Not to mention it adds another year onto your degree.
I'm in my second year at uni studying LLB law (I plan to do my post-grad and pass the bar to become a barrister after I finish my undergrad) and one of my optional modules that I picked this year is forensic science. There are a fair few criminology students in my forensics lectures this year. If you did criminology then luckily you wouldn't study a lot of the law (you'd only primarily study criminal law, police powers etc). so you'd miss out the boring bits like land law and contract law...however if you pick a business degree then you would have to briefly cover contract law (literally was the bane of my life in my first year haha) and likely EU/international trade as well. There are some criminology students on my comparative constitutional module because their first electives were all full up, my lecturer takes the mick constantly that they're not 'real' law students, so be warned (; Forensics is good fun although nothing like C.S.I on tv and you have to do a lot of chemistry! Do realise that you would most likely not be working with 'psychopaths' (very un-pc term there!) Make sure to look into career opportunities for criminology- prison officer, probation officer, police officer, social worker, etc.
/just my ramblings and opinions, hope this helps somewhat haha, feel free to message me if you have any questions (:0 -
My dream Vs My passion. I was born to do this Vs It is crazy fascinating. Idk, It seems to me that you want to be in business more than in criminology, at least imo judging by what you wrote...
Also, who said you can't do both. I mean, you can study criminology and when you finish you can then study business while working in criminology field. I know some people who does that and have got more than one education.
If you want to go work in criminology you will probably need education papers, to get experience and everything. What goes about business world, you don't need collage degree to be successful... you need only knowledge, if you wanna open your own business at later time. And you can study on your own everything you need. Collage papers only use is if you wanna go work as employee somewhere. But if you wanna be your own boss in your own business they are unnecessary, you just need knowledge and that you can study for free and on your terms as a passion. ^^0
