You have to start somewhere, right? The best program is the one you'll do. Good luck!

Weight loss is 80% what you eat. No it isn't bad.
I've only been barely exercising (walking), and I've lost 25lbs. You can do it!!

Don't worry after the new year about 60% of the people in the gym are new members.. that lasts about 3 months.

No it's not bad. I rarely EVER set time to exercise. I don't have much extra time in my schedule at the moment. Most is getting taken up by school and doc appointments lately. I watch what I eat and that's how I'm staying on track. I lost 40 lbs in 2 months before just watching my diet, of course I was 18 when I did this, lol

I am not the type of person that says "I will do this in x amount of time" - I have to start it there and then otherwise I won't bother.

Why set a "new years resolution" now? Why not just start it now??

I think eating is the most important part. Which is why I struggle. i can exercise all day to the cows come home. Diet is my weakness.

I don't think it's bad as long as you are starting something now and agree that 80% of weight is what you eat.
The only problem with puting off until "tomorrow" is if tomorrow never happens.

Nope, one thing at a time. Start with your food, get comfortable with everything in that regard and then add on from there. Do what is right for you.

It's a busy, stressful time right around the holidays and people tend to overindulge in goodies and treats. Sometimes I need my 15 or 30 minute walk to de-stress and have a little time to myself. Just choosing to be active for that small time most days does a lot for your body and mind. Fit it in if you can. Good luck.

Its definitely not "bad" - diet is SOOO important, so if you need to take time to get a grip on it, you should

    BUUUT:
imagine where you would be and how you would look on New Years if you started to concentrate on BOTH food and exercise NOW? Just a thought... Cause I am so thankful that I started my exercise/healthy eating no later than I did.

But this isn't a race, so no rush I guess... Wish you the best, and do whats best for you!
I was just putting that thought out there xx

Dieting is the important part but exercise is good for your heart health, we all need some exercise whether it be walking or a workout at the gym, which ever suits us best. And it doesnt have to be hours, 30 minutes a day or even 20, 4/5 times a week will make a big difference.

So set a date (doesnt have to be new year) and just do it  Good luck

I don't think it's that bad, as long as you commit to your goals in the future. A lot of us on our weight loss journey try to bite off more than they can chew at first (restricting calories, over-analyzing macros, exercising 7x a week), so if you need to ease yourself into a healthier lifestyle- go for it.

Not bad! I had to tackle this in stages, too. I started with food, and once I felt comfortable with those changes, I added exercise. I'm about to add strength training soon. It was overwhelming to me to contemplate making all the changes at once.

No, I think its a good way to start. I got my eating in check for a couple of months before I came back here and then I started exercising. Baby steps make big changes bite-sized and easier to deal with :flowerforyou:

Think about this though, weight loss with diet without exercise will make you look good with clothes on. Weight loss with diet and exercise will make you look good with your clothes off. It's your choice.
  • Thats ok!!! You have a plan and that is important!! If you need support add me if you want!
    Have a great day!

I think you are right!I lost weight through diet alone and I never exercised I put it all back on but not through lack of exercise it was what I was eating, now I watch what I eat I try to stick around 1500 cals a day and I aim to burn 500 each day through exercise I am very fit but I havnt lost weight in months,so I think I probably eat a bit too much but honestly under 1500 and Im just too hungry,I just dont think exercise make a huge pile of difference to weight loss as for feeling well in mind and body you just cant beat it!So I would say go with the eating like you said and add the exercise when you are ready!very best of luck!

Not at all. You have to start begin somewhere?

But can I ask why you don't want to exercise? Even if you toss in a 30 minute walk 3 times a week or an exercise DVD, you will gain great benefits. Exercise is more than just to lose weight, it provides a healthy heart and body. It gives you energy and gives you a great metabolism boost.

But to simply answer your question. No, it is not bad.

    Good luck!!

not at all....BUT...since you asked you must be thinking somewhere near that..

start with 1 minute of anything...like a few jumping jacks...or start stretching 5 minutes each morning...

then move up to 2 minutes and so on

you will be SHOCKED how much better you feel about yourself and how you will start going longer and feeling better

can you do one minute? of course you can....you will be better off mentally and phyisically

I do this all the time- dont let the fact that your switch date is around New Years fool you into thinking that you're putting off starting. Its cycling priorities, which helps many people so much more than the whole "baby steps" method. Focus on your nutrition for 4-6 weeks, then switch the focus to cardio and try to carry over the nutrition stuff as best as you can. Then switch to strength and weights and carry over a little bit of the cardio focus and dont forget nutrition. Then you switch back to organizing and planning as your priority - to make sure you can schedule time to keep up with all your responsibilities and playtime. Then you need to focus on your nutrition again because its been too long since it was a priority and you start the whole cycle over. Have mini goals to meet between priority shifts and make sure that you do something that marks that shift as a milestone! New Itunes for new kinds of workouts, a new piece of gear, a weigh in, a measuring day, a new dry erase board, progress pics, a new workoutfit. - make it fun,

Who cares if the switch is around the first day of a month?

respectfully disagree with switching like this...too complicated...it doesnt have to be focus on only one thing for me...get in a groove with your nutrition, add exercise, get a routine that you enjoy and can maintain and enjoy

It's not bad if it's what works for YOU. It's all about baby steps, if you think this will make you more successful, then by all means go for it. Sometimes the all or nothing approach doesn't work, so I see nothing wrong with it personally.
