OVER EXERTION - How does it feel like?

I was working out 5-6 days of the week and was enjoying my workouts. But BAM, one day I had a mild headache and few days later it turned really bad and I also had chills and fever. It went away after a couple of days.

I slowly restarted my exercise routine with some light walking, but few days later, I developed chest congestion and cough.
And its still going on and I am taking antibiotics now.

I am wondering if its over exertion or just some general sickness...

Have anyone else experienced anything similar?

I have over exerted myself in the past and when that happened I felt exhausted for two days. I had a good night sleep and I woke up more relaxed but I still felt I had been ran over by a train. I stayed at home and rested for three days and I was fine to restart my routine as always.
Yours sound like you had an infection right after the other, because of the fever factor.

I'd let the body rest for a couple of days :)

    Thank you:flowerforyou:
  • I have over exerted myself also and I tend to feel nauseous and get a mild headache. Usually the day after, the headache gets worse and I get flu like symptoms. Mine tend to go away after a day or two but I have never experienced a fever along with it. I do get chills but no fever. Just let your body rest for a couple of days and if you get worse or doesn't go away, I would probably go get checked just in case there is an infection.

^^ This is exactly what happened to me. I work out 5-6 days a week as well, but I found after I hit the 3 week mark I start feeling just like that, and so I gave myself a day or two of rest. But for the past 2-3 months I have been doing Yoga and/or Pilates between workouts or in the evenings, and I haven't felt those symptoms since. Maybe that might help you?

Are your workouts mixed? Like cardio and strength? I sometimes get overworked (at the beginning when I first started months ago) due to a my blood sugar being low. Not eating and breathing properly. I'd get dizzy and nauseous as well. I started looking it up and asking friends that are nutritionist and they suggested different foods to eat before a really intense workout and even some pos workout drinks. Hope you find an answer. Take care of yourself first.

That is a great idea. I was thinking of actually doing yoga 1 day of the week. It will burn some calories, without over exerting. WIN WIN

    Thank you!!

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I do both cardio and strength. I have pre-workout snack and am pretty good with eating/drinking post workout. Have not felt nauseous or dizzy. Maybe a little dizzy after doing one of Bob's workout, but his workouts are pretty intense and last for an hour!!

Then hopefully it was just a bug you caught. Hopefully the meds are helping you and your back to attacking those workouts. Happy sweating and progressing.

You clearly caught a virus or some other infection but it may be due to overtraining that you have a tough time fighting it off. I over-trained last year and started becoming sick a lot and fatigued. I backed off for a few weeks and then re-tooled my training to be less intense. Make sure you are getting good rest between tough workouts. Monitor your resting heart rate on a regular basis. If it starts to rise that might be a warning sign.
