Low iodine for Thanksgiving?

I am curious what people do for their holiday meals if they have to do a low iodine diet? I had thyroid cancer in 2010 and did the diet, I thought is was ok, I was really hungry but lived through it. Fastforward to now, and find out I will have to do it again and have put it off until January because I don't want to ruin my family's holidays.

So is it possible? What have others done?

I don't really get it...you are saying "F it" to the entire diet because of a couple holidays over the course of 2 months? There is Thanksgiving, then weeks until Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year's or whatever December holiday you might celebrate. Don't use 2-3 days out of 2 months as your excuse. Do your low iodine diet and give yourself a free pass for a select day or three over the course of the holiday season. Other than that, there really isn't any excuse just to blow it off until 2013.

Lastly, I wish you much success on the low iodine diet and on fighting the good fight against cancer!

My doctor said I would have to be on the diet for 3-4 weeks. I thought that was a little long, the first time I did it, it was only 9 days. But these new docs are really gung ho, and I am all for getting this cancer thing behind me.

I haven't done it myself but my mom has had to. We just ate whatever she could eat. There were actually a lot of options and we were all willing to help her out.

Have you seen the Low Iodine Cook book http://thyca.org/Cookbook.pdf There is pretty much a little of everything in here. We also cooked out of a lot of diabetic cook books because they tend to be naturally agreeable.
