I've recently joined a new gym which, has two Power Plate machines. I was just wondering whether anyone has used these machines and what you guys thought. Do they work?

Just to say I'm only really using the machine to help with toning.

Thanks,

R

Power Plates. That's what I plan on using for Thanksgiving. More turkey and dressing on the same size plate. That's POWER!

    Hi
I am just doing a short course of them as it was on special offer and I am on a pre-Christmas getting into shape. To begin with I was not sure of any effect at all. However I have also upped my gym classes body pump and spin which do lots of cardio but not so much on stomach muscles. This week ( the 2nd week of daily sessions) I can feel that my stomach muscles have worked. I do get sliughtly sweaty when doing the 25 minute session but I do not bother to wear a HRM it is more toning than calorie burn.

I have done quite a few Power Plate sessions in the last year or so. In my gym you get individual attention and they trainers set the machines and monitors how you are doing. Each Exercise only lasts 20 - 45 seconds but you really feel the effects. In my gym you also use weights. I get great cardio and strength training with the PPand the trainers really push you to finish those last few seconds.

On the other hand....... i know of gyms where they will show you how to use the PP then it is up to you.

When you start out with PP there is a very strange feeling in your head if the vibrations are too high. Working with a trainer will make sure this doesn't happen. Also, it is fantastic for stretching our achey muscles. I always get a calf and hamstring massage in the last minute.

As for results...... Yes, you will get them. Improved strength, stamina and inch loss. You can feel the benefits after a couple of sessions. They say you can drop a dress size in 6 weeks, presumably doing 2/3 sessions per week.

The only downside for me is that they are expensive. Well, it is an additional cost on top of my gym membership so I only do it if they have a deal going on and I can book a block of sessions cheaper.

    Good luck.

I'm yet to be convinced they are of any benefit.

In fact, I'm yet to be convinced they're not causing harm http://www.healthyworkinglives.com/advice/workplace-hazards/vibration.aspx#what
