Has anyone had major success with it? I'm trying to do a "free" version via phone apps.

Why not just do MFP program? You're here - it's free and it works (better than WW in my opinion). I came here as a WW drop out.0

I did WW a total of 3 serious times going back to my early 20's. The first most successful time I lost 38 pounds, I was doing it with 3-4 coworkers, however in that instance summer rolled around between vacations and summer busy times we all sort of quit. I think I was less then 10 pounds from my goal.
I joined a second time within a few years of that and had gained a good amount of back, not all, anyway that time did not last long, maybe lost 18 pounds, I also was doing this with different co-workers/different job. They were not motivated and really could not afford to go, so again I lost interest and stopped going.
I joined again maybe 8 years ago by myself, in fact I did it in secret and told no-one, really probably did not want to explain why I quit again. I lost weight, have no idea how much, not as much as time 2.
So, had a baby and it has been 7 years later (now) I was planning on doing WW again, it worked as a program for me but the weigh ins and none real handy to me, I just could not be bothered with it. I looked to do online as an app, but it seemed expensive and really I could not find positive reviews to justify trying it out. I searched for calorie counting apps for my new Ipad and found MFP. I decided it was the tracking and eating what I want but were really what worked for me on WW, MFP looked like it would more or less do the same thing. Eager to use my Ipad this was my plan.
I need to see what I am eating or planning on eating, to both watch and improve. I think this approach is more long term for me now, the thought of paying 50 bucks a month (or whatever it was), and having to find a place and drive to it weekly is just not appealling to me now. When I was going WITH others and it was a minute drive from work it made sense.
I will add I was when I started MFP I was 40 pounds UP from the first time I walked in WW. I would not blame weight watchers, I liked it but it just does not fit my lifestyle now.0 -
Me! There is not much love for WW here, but it works for me. I double track with WW and MFP, I started on MFP because I want to track my sodium. I love WW, but I don't talk about it much on here because it gets bashed a lot.0

I do Weight Watchers Online, and lost 90 lbs beginning in January 2011. I originally came over here to try to save $18 a month that I was paying for the app, but I've decided I like tracking 'points' better than calories and the "weekly" points they offer work well for me for special occasions.
I think either program will work as long as you work it as it's designed.0
