time.. my husband and i just had to decide the same thing. He was worked nights and had the option to go on days but it was quite the paycut. He took it anyway.
  • When you're 70 you'll beg for all the time you spent working back so enjoy as much free time as possible. Just my opinion though.

If you're in a job you despise and derive no fulfillment from this could be true but, personally, I love what I do and plan on working until I no longer can.

Make a pro and con list of each job. If the money and the time off are the only issues then you need to sit down and figure out which is worth more to you. You said in the job that will pay more you'll still get time off but how much? 15 weeks is a lot!

In all honesty while the money is a big draw time would definitely be the deal maker for me. In my other job I would jump at any chance I had to be able to get time off: working 4 ten hour days a few times a month, extra over time (when asked) for a day off, things like that. I would actually be bummed when I got a monetary reward for something because I would prefer the time off instead.

The job with the money is 37 hours a week with 2 days off and 5 weeks paid holidays

The reason im slightly more inclined to the extra money is because I really dont have alot of spare income as it stands but like i said im not in a position where im getting evicted or starving ect I maybe have £100 a month if that when ive paid all bills ect and to be fair that doesnt go all that far so having an extra couple of hundred a month would mean when i did have free time i wouldnt be declining offers from friends for nights out. meals, weekends away ect the little luxuries in life like these things i could do

I guess im just abit concered that if i take the job with the holidays id be sat in doing nothing for most of these ! the job is based in a school so the time off would be set mainly 7 weeks starting from july then 2 weeks for xmas and new year 2 weeks at half term then 4 other weeks thrown in for things like easter ect also i scrape enough money together for 1 holiday abroad each year and i take this at a time when the schools havent broke up as the prices seem to rocket whereas taking this job would mean my only chance to holiday would be at the most expensive times and im not sure i could afford it

so although i would be off for 15 weeks i dont want to be depressing myself because i cant afford to do alot in that time ect

thank you all for your opinions :)

My thought is w/the time off you will spend more money - so I would take the money and save, save, save!!!

You know, that's a great question. I suppose that would depend what you would do with your new found time.

then take that job. dont take the easy way. take the job with "lots of progression". you never know how the economy is going to to go and a job like that may be much harder to get later.
