Has anyone in the UK seen a dietician?

And can you advise me on how to go about it?

I'd like to see one because I want some advice on making sure I'm meeting everyone's nutritional needs in the family. I want to lose 50lbs without losing too much lean mass. My husband is type 1 diabetic. We also have a tiny tot at home. I really want someone who can look at what we are eating and help me find ways to make sure everyone is getting what they need without me cooking different food for everyone. I would also really like some advice on avoiding plateaus and calculating my TDEE as accurately as possible (my high body-fat means I get widely different estimates).

Is this what dieticians do? How do I find one? I thought about asking the doctor but didn't want to waste his time since I'm not actually ill and I feel cheeky expecting the NHS to provide this for free.

Does anyone know how much it costs? Any good/bad experiences?

I saw a 'dietician' when I was about 19. He weighed me and gave me some sort of amphetamine pills. I strongly got the opinion that the whole thing was just about selling his magic pills and I did not go back.
