Why does my ex still have a hold on me?

Ok, So I have been happily married for 12 years, but my boyfriend of 1.5 years before that still has an emotional hold on me! I "stayed friends" with him for a long time, then kinda faded away. We were just chatting online, and again I feel like we ended it yesterday. I loved him when I left him, but should I not be over him by now? Why do I still miss him and wonder what if?
