Please help me figure out how much I burned walking today?

I am trying to figure out how much calories I burned today with my walk. I decided to get off a stop early when going into town, walked around town and then got off the bus 6 stops early! I used a stop watch and it recorded 46 minutes of walking.

When I typed this into the "how long" box it ended up saying in the "calories burned" box that I burned 17 calories. I am pretty sure that is wrong.

I am unsure how to work out how much calories burnt, I don't know how to do it and I am rubbish with maths. Is there anyone who could help me?

I currently weigh 182 lb and I walked for 46 minutes. I am unsure on how many miles, I know when I got off the bus it was 1mile and I did that in 21 minutes, I am unsure of how many miles was the earlier journey.

Would be very grateful for any help as I plan to do this walking trip more often!

Choose the 3 mile per hour walking the dog in cardio and you should get about 200 cals.

You might of selected an exercise from the MFP database with bad parameters.

I put in 46 minutes of "Walking, slow pace 2.0mph" and resulted with 152 calories burned. Though, I'm also a male and ~175lbs.

There are too many variables involved with trying to calculate calories burned that would take awhile to dig up from memory. Also, I would not take MFP's numbers it churns out as a base of accuracy.

    Hey.

I tried both options. The dog walking came up with 15 calories burned, the slow pace one came up with 11 calories burned!

Why is it so low compared to what you two have gotten? Is there something wrong with how I am typing it in or just something wrong with the exercise diary in general? :/

You must be doing something wrong. When I was 180 pounds I would use 3 calories per minute if I was walking at 3 miles per hour. so 3 x 46 minutes = 138.

I still don't understand how to physically type it in. It still keeps coming up low and I have typed 46 in the "how long" box (meaning 46 minutes) and automatically it says 15 calories burned. I am so stuck and it is frustrating.

Is it the weight you have recorded for yourself? Your ticker says 169 pounds lost....
  • Assuming your height, weight, and age information is correct in your MFP settings, your issue could be at some point you entered in both the time and the calories burned, in which case I understand that MFP uses whatever you entered that time as the calculation for calories burned for that particular activity going forward. I suggest you use another calorie calculator (for example: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc), and then input both the time and results from that calculator into MFP. It should then behave more normally going forward. Of course, MFP and other calorie calculators that do not include a calculation based on your heart rate are inherently flawed, but they can generally get you reasonably close. Good luck.

I did not see that before. It could think that you are only 11 lbs. I am 185 and I get 213 for 46 min 3mph walking dog. As you can see I actually have a dog so I use this a lot.

Also I see that you are in England. Are you using metrics? Look at your settings.

It gave my 281 instead of 213 and people here complain that MFP goes over on calories burned.

But to Sarah did you check your settings?
