Weight lifting for beginners? Any good guides?

Hi! So since joining MFP I keep seeing everyone say that weight lifting is a good exercise for losing weight and is beneficial and so I thought I'd try it out! But I have absolutely, 100%, NO idea what anything weight lifting related means or any idea on how to start.. or anything!
Are there any good guides or tutorials or anything that will help me get started??
Also I'm a petite person (short and small boned) and my wrists are small (smaller than a child's) and weak.. will this be a problem?

The best way to start a new exercise regimen, IMO, is with a personal trainer who
knows their stuff. Someone who is knowledgeable not only about equipment and exercise, but who knows about diet, physiology, and the psychology of training will go a long way toward getting you acclimated. A good personal trainer, esp for the absol beginner, is worth their weight 8n gold, and will keep you from developing bad habits at the outset, and give you the knowledge that will provide you with a lifetime of safe time in the gym.
As to having a thin build and all that, weight training, done right, can only improve it. However, much of that is dependent on the right diet and exercise technique adapted to ur body type. For this, a personal trainer is invaluable as.a.guide and educator: teach me how to fish, etc. Just my .02.0 -
Jamie Eason's 12wk livefit trainer is awesome. It's on bodybuilding.com and it's free. What I really liked about it is that you can click each exercise and get a video of how to do it, a description or an alternate exercise.
Also, about you being petite and weak... that will change Just commit.0 -
I am also going to say jamie Easons livefit. It is not intimidating to begin. There are videos to instruct you how to do a move! Along w/ food menu ideas. Her recipes are yummy too :-) good luck!!!0

Yup, Starting Strength is great. Can get a little boring since its not that many lifts so if you're someone that gets bored with workouts easily (me haha) you might look into NROLFW because it has different stages with various lifts.0 -
