Am I eating to much fiber 45g ?

Yesterday was my first day keeping track of what I ate. I was shocked to see that I consumed 45g of fiber all from whole foods. Is this to much? My food diary is public check it out and let me know what you think.

  • I understand women need about 25 grams per day.

If you're consistently eating a high amount, I don't see the problem in it....I usually shoot for over 30

I've had 30+ grams before, especially if I eat a low carb tortilla, lots of veggies and whole grains all day.... I feel fine. I don't think 45 grams is bad, but you don't have to have that much... that most likely won't be a daily thing. Include milk and other things in your diary too. Some things that aren't high fiber are still needed in the diet.

If you experience Cramping, Diarrhea, Malabsorption, Constipation, Intestinal Gas, then lower the fiber.

Some people gradually raise their fiber intake, instead of going from 10 grams a day to 45. I don't know how much your old diet used to include in fiber.

One bad side effect of two much fiber could be Intestinal Blockage. This occurs when an individual eats too much fiber and does not consume enough water. Fiber can cause a blockage in the intestines, preventing any other foods to get past.
I think this is the worst possible effect of too much.

I really don't think you need to worry about eating too much fiber from whole foods. You will know!
I used to eat too much fiber when my mom would bring home cases of cherries. Yum! It was worth the sore tummy and after effects.

Now, fiber supplements, that's a different story. Blockages can become an issue.

I always track my fiber, aiming to go above 25 grams every day. The highest I've seen it reach is about 52 g one day, it just meant I had to go to the bathroom more

As long as you're keeping healthy and eating whole foods, and not ALWAYS hitting numbers that are this high, you should be fine. The only concerns for eating too much fiber every day would be cramping, gas, bloating, intestinal blockage (if you don't drink enough water to help things move along), diarrhea (if consumed too quickly), and malabsorbtion (but I believe this would be if you were consuming it artificially).
