Does the new slim PS3 play PS2 and PS games? For some reason I cannot find the answer to this on google.

Depends what model. I think the only PS3 model that was made to play PS2 games was the older fat body one, that's a 60gb. I'm not sure any play PS1 games though.

All PS3s will play PS1 discs.

You won't find a PS3 that can play PS2 discs in a store, unless it's a refurb. I would stay away from those anyhow.

You can buy a lot of the good PS2 games as either downloadable games or as remastered HD games that will work on all PS3s.

You can buy a lot of PS1 games as downloads that will work on PS3, PSP, and some on PS Vita (compatibility is being worked on for Vita).

My PS3 has no backwards compatibility and will only play PS3 disks.

Not true. All will not play PS1 disks. You can download ps1 games, but most newer PS3's won't play the disks.

You can use this tool: http://us.playstation.com/support/compatiblestatus/index.htm

to check disk titles and see if your model (if it's one of those two that are backwards compatible) will play it.

    Also, here's a big list. I like lists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_3_backward_compatible_PlayStation_2_and_PlayStation_games

    Really? This link you posted:

Says: "However, all versions of the PS3 are able to play PS1 games."

    1. It's wikipedia.
    2. You can try telling that to my PS3, but it's still not going to play them.

I am fully aware of how wikipedia works, the irony is that the guy used a link which contradicts this point to prove his point.

I didn't say that EVERY PS1 game will work.

I have two slims and one fat PS3, and they all play my PS1 discs. I just put in Legend of Dragoon and it works fine.

Which PS3 model do you have, and which PS1 games did you try to play in it? Are you putting the discs in right-side up?

I put a link that because it shows which games will play on which systems. And the first link because you can put in a game title and it'll show if it can be played.

by saying all ps3's can play ps1 games, it makes it seem as if it can play any and all game made. I said that's not true, which is correct. Because some titles don't play. Not really contradicting my point, maybe I should've worded it better.

Fair enough. I could have worded it better I guess, but I have about 30 PS1 disc games and they all work in all of my PS3s. *shrug*

But that first link is horribly out of date. It doesn't even list the slim models as an option, and just for ****s and giggles, I typed in Legend of Dragoon and it told me that that game wouldn't work on any of the PS3 models, yet, it is playing right now in my CECH-2001A... I also checked Tekken 2, and it says the same thing. I hereby submit that that link is useless.
