thoughts on slimfast?

i have taken to drinking slimfast each morning for breakfast. i am so not a breakfast person and the thought of chewing food until i've been awake for nearly 2 hours makes me want to gag! but the slimfast rocks because it's more of a chocolate milk kind of thing that i can drink, and i don't mind that at all. i like that it has protein, fiber and vitamins in it too. i wonder sometimes though if i am missing out on the benefits of eating 'real' food for breakfast or if it's no big deal. any suggestions?

ps~i'm really weird with food texture things, so the breakfast fruit smoothie is out for me - unless someone knows a way to make one with no seeds or pulp and that doesn't involve bananas - i like to eat bananas, but not mashed up - it just grosses me out for some reason... :ohwell:

I make a blueberry smoothie, it doesn't have any pulp (well some pulp, but you don't notice when you are drinking...not like you have to chew it, it is just the skin ) or seeds. I use fat-free vanilla yogurt (6 oz), half a cup of fat free milk, and a cup of frozen blueberries, so that I don't need ice. I sometimes also add the Benefiber non-thickening powder. I don't like bananas in my smoothies, they take over all of the flavor.

    Just a thought.
  • I lost 6 lbs in 2 weeks on slimfast but it takes a lot of dedication to seriously not eat anything else with my breakfast and lunch. they say you can have a small lunch , ike half a sandwich or something with the shake. and the snacks they want you to have are either a plain few carrot sticks or celery. Or you can get their "candy bar" snacks which i didint enjoy too much. If you have a lot of will-power and really find the shakes filling , it works. and i used to buy the target brand because it was cheaper

I never start my day without slimfast....even though it is high in sugar. It fills me up and I eat normal and healthy actually staing within my calorie range.

I used to drink slimfast religiously every morning but now I have moved on to higher protein/less sugar/fat shakes. BSN Syntha 6 is SOOOOO delicious! I switch between that and premiere nutrition shakes. Nutrition label-wise these work out better for me.:drinker:

I'm not fond of the slimfast, they make me sick about 30 minutes after I drink one. Even though they taste great!
I'm a fan of the EAS AdvantEDGE shakes. I used them when I used to power lift.

I also make my own . . .soy or whey protein powder (Optimum Nutrition's natural whey is really good flavor wise http://www.optimumnutrition.com/products/natural-products-c-11.html?zenid=686fe324b436c893ffad05a75f104c3b ), frozen berries, frozen mango, milk and a couple of ice cubes. The ice cubes help keep fruit pulp from accumulating on the blades, thus making it easier to clean. At least in my experience. Mango is high in soluble fiber and a blessing when I am having an IBS flare.
Sometimes I'll add acacia fiber ( www.helpforibs.com ), but be careful w/ how much you use at first . . . to much can be very binding, especially to a normal GI tract!

    Good luck
