Homemade Recovery Drink

Okay - don't blast me with your nutritional differences of opinion...if this isn't your thing, then don't worry about it.

After a hard workout, research has shown that your muscles need a little protein and a little simple carbs to get it there speedy-like. There are a ton of different ones on the market, and they are a pretty penny, for sure. But man, are they convenient and FAST.

I decided to try out my own combos.

So...when I'm not coming home to dinner I cooked before my run / breakfast after a morning run, I have taken to a cheap and easy solution. You can achieve the same results in a few different ways.

1. 3T of unflavored protein powder mixed with 8oz of your fave Gatorade/Powerade (NOT G2). Shake and drink.
2. 8oz of milk mixed with 1/2 scoop of powdered Gatorade/Powerade. Shake in shaker cup and toss it back.
3. 8oz of milk with 1T of honey or agave nectar.

I use soy milk for my concoctions - but any milk with 6-9g of protein would do the trick. Try it and let me know what you think!

I love chocolate malt ovaltine, but haven't had it since I was pregnant and my son is 16 now. Never thought of it as a good pre-work out boost. Gotta try it now.

Not enough protein in a cup of coconut water (only 2g)
