What to do around the house?

I am going to join the Y later this month but until then, I was thinking of jogging/walking with one of my dogs in the evenings but its dark out- is that a good idea to get started? I know I can get DVDs but i also know I want to be out doing something rather than in front of the TV. When I join the Y, i plan to try and do swimming/Cycling/walking/jogging and maybe Pilates. I guess i should do weight lifting? I dont know?
