GERD/LPR - Help!

Has anyone figured out how to deal with GERD/LPR and lose weight? I have severe case been under treatment for months acid preventers, acid reducers. Many times meal don't stay down then I eat ice cream or milk shake because everything is burning like fire.

Any suggestions? {I should lose weight when so much doesn't stay down, but calories of replacement eat/drink after high calories!!! I've lost about 10 pounds since I left work (because stress at work was literally killing me). Thought LPR/GERD would let up too but no such luck.

Tracking diet here is my last shot before I have to see doctor again I'mafraid he'll suggest surgery, again.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Are you still struggling with this? I've just been diagnosed with GERD and have been researching it like crazy. I wouldn't mind talking about what I've found out and what you may have found out. I'm struggling a bit too and have changed my eating habits so much that I've lost 7 lbs in under a week.

The biggest things I've found that help are cutting down the fat, The easier way to do this is to look at the calories, if the calories are low, the fat content is most likely low too. Don't eat Non-fat, or mint, don't drink carbonated drinks of any kind, don't eat 3 hours before lying down and walk, or something, after dinner.

Many other things depend on the person. Some people tolerate some foods and spices, others don't. I'm eating many small meals in a day, which is OK, because I'm on a "break" right now It will be harder when I'm working and going to school again.

I hope you've figured some things out in the last month or so!

I had a Major problem with this!!! It took a couple of years, two doctors and a gazillion tests.......until I finally started tracking my food . I figured out I have an intolerance to artificial food coloring, especially yellow #6 and red #40. Good luck to you!!

Thanks! I have found out that I have problems with soy and artificial sweeteners. That's allergy-wise. But, I wonder if there is anything else. I'll have to keep a close eye.

I have found that eating smaller meals helps. Also, I reduced how often I eat few high acidic foods (tomatoes, citrus, etc) and do not eat for 3 hours before I go to sleep. Keep an eye on which foods seem to cause an issue after you eat them. Eat a simpler diet if necessary until you have a handle on what causes problems for you.... ie: marinated chicken breast, a veggie and potato, then add more combinations to see what is going on.

I used to take meds for this too. The good news is, mine improved drastically when I lost weight. Not so much belly fat pushing on my stomach! My doctor did say that it does need to be treated as it can cause other serious problems, not just discomfort. He also told me it may go away with weight loss and in my case, he was right. I hope it works for you.

I found that when I started eating actual portions size meals about 6 times per day (instead of eating most calories at dinner), limiting alcohol and losing 20 lbs most of my gastro related issues have disappeared. Haven't had a gallbladder attack in 6 months or more and almost zero heartburn/GERD symptoms. I used to live on Prilosec and Gas-X.
