Medication help please

I have just received a letter from the my arthritis specialist. He wants me to add more medication in the hope that it will stop my pain all together. These are more medication that doesn't cure arthritis just one like to stop the pain. I'm unsure if I should take more tablets though as he wants me to also stay on my current meds. This will mean taking 1-2 more tablets a day and I'm unsure about taking them because as I said its not a cure (I also can't get pregnant on either meds coz they can harm babies - not a problem now but maybe in the future) do you guys think I should just take them or just carry on as I am now?

    I have rheumatoid arthritis and take a variety of meds to manage it. I take the advice of my rheumatologist always when it comes to the meds and it has allowed me to resume a pretty intense training regime.

    Take the doctor's advice.

    Thank you for your input. It's helpful to hear what other people do for their arthritis. May I ask what medications you are currently taking. I am currently taking 2 hydroxychloroquine each day and this has greatly helped my condition which means I can live relatively pain free just not to the point of where I was 18 months ago before this all started

    I am on hydroxychloroquine, prendisolone and leflunomide. In a couple of weeks I will be adding etanercept to the mix to try and get this under control. What is your doctor wanting to add?

    Call him and ask him or his nurse these questions. They may want you to come in for an appointment so you can chat face to face. If you are ever unsure about a treatment reccomendation it's your duty as a patient to ask, and the doctors duty to answer and explain until you feel you understand.

    There is no cure so pain management is the only help. As the patient it's up to you to decide when the pain is at a level that you can handle. I wouldn't take drugs "just because" but if you are still experiencing pain that interferes with your life then you may want to follow the suggestions.
