A friend diagnosed with ITP

Last year a friend was diagnosed with ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura), which is due to low number of blood platelets/thrombocytes. To this day she's still battling the illness and going to the hospital from time to time. Sometimes she would feel like she wants to give up because she could no longer handle the pain and would be in weak state. Her birthday is coming up and i'm thinking of giving her something memorable that could cheer her up and motivate her again. At first I wanted to make a scrapbook with some of our photos together, but I fear that it might upset her because she had once stated that she hated looking at herself in photos. The only thing I had in mind was giving her a book, where she can read during her bed-rest at home or when she's at the hospital. I haven't thought of which book to get but a motivation book perhaps? Or something else? I look forward to hearing some ideas from all my friends here at MyFitnessPal... Thank you in advance.
