The only detox you need to do is if you're a drug addict or an alcoholic. Otherwise your body does just fine on it's own.

Detox diets generally only strip water weight away and are useless in the long-term.
  • Chicken nugs. Seriously.

The body does an excellent job of "cleansing" itself. Just treat it right and it will treat you right. There is no "cleanse" as effective as simply eating well.

"The best way to 'detox' the body is simply to let your body do its job. Unless you have a medical problem, your body takes care of itself quite nicely, experts say.

"The liver and kidneys are nature's best-kept secret, because they are the weapons to eliminate toxins from your body," says Gerbstadt. "If you are concerned about certain substances in your diet, it is easier and safer to simply eliminate [those substances] rather than engage in unhealthy detox plans."

According to Chau Che MD, with New York University:

"Despite evidence to the contrary, the idea that colon cleansing is therapeutic by removing impurities, lives on. However, these claims largely fail to consider normal physiology. The digestive tract has inherent properties that work to clean our colon. After food ingestion, the small intestine absorbs nutrients and contracts to move indigestible residue into the colon. The colon continues the digestive process by absorbing and secreting electrolytes and fluids while its resident bacteria ferments the undigested food products. These are just some of the many mechanisms in which the digestive tract works in order to ensure that the colon does not become encrusted with fecal matter as some products claim. The black, rubbery material passed on a colon cleanse is actually a byproduct from the supplements and fiber in the colon cleansing product as opposed to old fecal material, in which consumers are led to believe."

The O2 four day cleanse is entirely food based, with no special costly mysterious teas, and it helps drop a few pounds of water weight and has always stripped away my cravings for junk.

My son is in the medical field and he says the same thing.

I did the GM cleanse and LOVED IT! It's 7 days. I didn't actually lose weight (maybe 2 pounds) but I felt AMAZING! afterwards. My roommate did it with me and she dropped about 17 lbs. So if you're looking for weight loss it depends on who you are and how drastic of a change this cleanse will be for you. I was eating pretty healthy before we started so it wasn't hard for me.

add water and time and your body will do the rest

since you will be using your body for the rest of your life, take some time and get a basic understanding of how it works and you will be better off

Increasing water intake can help toxins leave the body, no detox diet necessary.

When I feel "dirty" and heavy from eating too much no-no's I sometimes choose to take a few days where I completely skip dairy and flour. I try to keep it simple and clean, like smoothies based entirely on fruit. Salads with chicken, usually no dressing. I try to completely skip salt for the period. Every morning i down a linseed shot, a glass of lemon-ginger-honey water and a cup of green tea. Other than that, I just drink plenty of water.

This isn't a way to lose weight tho. It just helps me feel refreshed. It's probably just a psychological thing. =)

Here is a link to the plan I mentioned:

If you don't like fish or eggs, you can substitute another lean protein source.

7+ years ago I weighed 240 lbs, had type 2 diabetes, IBS, eczema, plantar fasciitis, depression, menopausal symptoms. I tried everything to lose weight. Nothing helped. I just got sicker and sucker. my true body age was 67.

I did a 21-day cleanse (detox) program using food and whole food cleansing supplements. The first week my eczema cleared, my blood sugar normalized and my hot flashes stopped. The second week my feet stopped hurting. By the end of the third week all my symptoms were gone. I lost 16 lbs. felt like a new woman so why would I go back to my old ways?

I kept it up and in four months lost 76 pounds. That was 7 years ago. I have no health problems, kept my weight down, look and feel younger at 55 than I did at 35. My true body age is now 42.

Your body is created to detox on a daily basis but cannot do so w/o fruits and veggies. If you want to know more message me. I'd be happy to give you some ideas.
