I feel like im not doing well. I just started doing power 90, about 1 week in and it doesnt seem to be helping. Im actually having a hard time eating the amount of calories im supposed to without making my fat or carbs go sky high. Im a horribly picky eater and i am at work from 9-8pm so its not easy for me to cook. I pretty much have a 120 calorie protien shake for breakfast along with 90 calorie lactaid to mix it EVERY Day. Lunch is usually 2 oz of turkey cheese a roll some salami equals about 350-400 calories and then im left with dinner and a snack. My snack is usually a fiber bar of sorts totalling about 120 calories. on average i have been consuming about 1500 hundred calories a day. not including my burnt calories from the exercise. Now im 288lbs 5ft8in it says i should be eating 1800 calories. so what do i do. I dont feel tired i dont feel burnt out. I just dont want to put my body into starve mode. Suggestions would be great. Like healthy higher calorie snacks that are low in fat and carbs would be great.
The protein shake for breakfast is something i cannot and wont change due to my schedule but if i could add some stuff to it or something else that would be great. Thank you for taking the time to help. Im down from 325lbs in august to the 288lbs i am now by cutting the calories i figured power 90 could get me to 225 or so and then i can attempt p90x

results arent instant you gotta keep working for it! im sure if you keep it up and tweak it slightly as you go youll start to see results as you go. also maybe try to add some fruit into that it helped me out for when i started0

It's my understanding that starvation mode doesn't usually set in until your body fat is really low. I wouldn't worry about it, too much. I would suggest getting around 150 grams of protein per day, to maintain lean muscle mass.
I'm 5'8" , and currently eating around 1600 calories per day. When I exercise, I try to do a pre, and post workout shake to make up some of my exercise calories.0 -
Ok i just wanted to make sure if im hitting 1500-1600 calories a day max that im not killing myself here. I intake on average about 120-130 grams of protein. I dont know if i could handle a shake in the morning then 1 shake before workout and 1 after thats a lot of liquid lol0

Just a thought- if you want to add more protein powder- it doesn't HAVE to be in shake form. If you look through the forums, there are lots of other creative ways to use it. Ones I have tries and recommend are:
- Protein Lattes - I mix 1 scoop vanilla protein with 4oz milk in a mini blender, then blend in (slowly!) 8-10 oz strong coffee, then I microwave for 30s just to reheat a little
- Mix with greek yogurt, sprinkle with berries or a portion of cereal, nuts or granola.
- mix with greek yogurt and a sugar free pudding mix for a variety of new flavors
- mix with your favorite oatmeal creations. Favorites include berries, peanut butter and unsweetened cocoa (stevia to taste) for a peanut butter cup oatmeal...I always add flax for fiber and omega 3...make sure to add protein AFTER cooking the oatmeal.0 -
I was thinking of adding some oatmeal to the shake in the morning which yes has a little more carbs but boosts me about 100 calories. Unfortunately i do not drink nor like coffee and Fruit is probably the hardest thing for me to eat. I add fiber powder to each meal so fiber im good on. but i could try sprinkling it on.. I never thought to do that not sure how i would measure it out i guess ill need a measuring spoon attached to me0

I don't drink coffee, either. I do drink a lot of water. I'm currently supplementing with BCAAs, and creatine, and the water seems to help.
Frozen fruit in your protein shakes will help make them tastier, and thicker. I usually add half a frozen banana to mine. Along with some frozen spinach.0
