Cardio and muscle gain... what to eat?

I've recently started gaining muscle since there's just a lil' saggy line around my waist which I'm told will only disappear with cardio. So as well as the mass of strength exercises, I'm going running every few days. I enjoy it, so i don't plan to stop even when this lil' belt has gone (yay zombie chases!)

You have to be in a calorie surplus to gain any muscle, to which any protein goes, but that's left me with the question of what to eat to cover my running. Do I even need to consume the calories back (or before)? Does it matter where they come from? Protein is an expensive and valuable resource in comparison to fat and carbs so though I'd love to consume it all back in protein i don't think i could afford that.

So yeah... how should i adjust my food intake with my cardio?

Negative brah, I suggest strength over cardio any day. I lost my swaginhibiting pudge weight lifing - and i hate cardio man. Eat complex carbs like yer potatoes and rice and veggie carbs. Chicken breast isnt that expensive, and cans of tuna are good protein recources.
