Ice Bath for Achy legs

I workout 5 nights a week, Sun-thurs, 50 min a night. HIIT Elliptical-Core exersizes mainly. Problem is 2 rest days later my legs are still real sore. Would an Ice bath help that? Or should I be waiting another day before working out?

Ice helps sooth muscles, it's the difference between a couple of days of soreness, and faster recovery IMO

Are you stretching real well after you work out? I ask this because I had MAJOR issues with super sore legs last week ( after I started doing some weights). I went to the trainer and asked him if the pain in my legs would ever get better, and he asked me what kind of stretching routine I had ( none at ALL). SO that day I started stretching at the end of my workout, and had zero pain after Friday's workout. Still feeling 100% today....

More stretching should help too , or maybe some type of roller that you can use to massage your legs ,Try to fight through the pain, it will only make you stronger .

Ice right after the "injury" caused by a workout. Heat in later days.

An ice bath helps (pure torture BTW) but is most effective if taken shortly after a really hard workout.

I often spend my treadmill time fantasizing about going and sitting in the hot tub after my workouts...haven't done it yet though.

A couple of ice packs could do the same thing without requiring nearly as much ice and without the discomfort of sitting in freezing cold water.

I'd just suck it up for a few weeks and it will go. I used to get so sore I could hardly move and now I have to do something really crazy to even be a bit stiff. With strength you don't get the soreness.

Yes I stretch for probably 3-4 min before and 4-5 min post workout.
  • Thanks all for the input. I guess was more wondering would it still do anything 2 days after?

no. you want to ice right away to keep swelling at a minimum. at this point heat and stretching is generally a better option. and ibuprofen
