So how do you celebrate without putting on weight?

I think I've managed to survive another year of my PhD (will find out for definate at the end of the week) and rather than the scales going up... they have actually dropped by 21lbs. So to relax and celebrate my husband is taking me away for a weekend, out for a couple of meals, and an evening of clubbing which will inevitably mean a lot of alcholic drinks. I got really excited and then I realised that all my means of celebrating either require spending money on new handbags and the alike or by eating and drinking unhealthly. And so I'm interested in hearing how other people celebrate other than negating all the hard work we've put in.

First of all, congrats on your successes!!
I totally celebrate with food. I totally socialize with food, and drink.
My answer: Continue tracking like any other day. Allow room for some goodies by having low cal. (maybe extremely low cal.) breakfast/lunch. AND/OR Cardio like crazy to give yourself more room to consume more calories.
    Hope this helps.
    Happy Celebrations!

You're very unlikely to gain back 21 pounds in a weekend! I couldn't even imagine how much you'd have to eat to accomplish that. When you're clubbing have less drinks and do more dancing. Eat a more healthy breakfast & lunch and splurge a bit on dinner. Try and get in some sightseeing (aka walking).

I tend to celebrate w/food too. :ohwell: But balance it w/activity and you should be good.

That's sweet of your husband to take you out :) I'd just enjoy yourself for a day or two, then get back to it. You obviously know what you're doing based on your weight loss, so a little break won't hurt. It may ease your mind if you can get some exercise in though, like a walk or a hike.

I agree with the above in celebrating with food, but sensibly. As a fellow PhD student, I always celebrate those milestones with friends and food (I don't drink, but I do love dessert!).

As far as celebrating weight loss, I'm less likely to do that with food. Instead, I start looking for a new dress, and not just any dress but one that makes me feel special at my new weight. I start with the Goodwill stores or eBay to see if anything cheap is available, but if I've got an occasion in mind (like the holidays coinciding with the 30 lbs mark), I might put forth a few extra dollars on something special to wear. It might sound cheesy, but if I find a dress I really like, it's a personal weight loss celebration every time I wear it
