pedometer or HRM?

Hi everyone!
I was thinking about getting myself a pedometer or an hrm for christmas. I read that people who have one highly recommend it and I guess it is also motivating because you always want to reach for more and set new goals!
But I don't know wether to get a pedometer or hrm? Or is there anything that combines those two aspects?
I'm not too athletic, I'm 141 lb looking to lose about 10 to 15 lbs.
I'm currently doing the 30 day shred and I play soccer once a week.
I sometimes use the elliptical or go for a run and I'd like to go swimming more often.
Based one this, what would you recommend for me? I don't know wether I'd like to wear it all day or only during exercise? I guess if you wear it all day you have to set your level to sedentary and then log all the calories burned?!
what do you think?

I have a HRM and i only wear mine when i want to log my exercise calories burned. It doesent count the steps but, i wasent interested in that. I wanted to know how many calories i was burning while trying to lose weight. It also helps me to know that my heart rate is being kept UP which is important to weight loss. I would be lost with out my hrm since the numbers mfp gives me arent usually accurate.
I have the polar FT4 and it has great reviews.0 -

Depends on what you want it for. A pedometer can be worn all day to push yourself to get in more steps. A HRM is used during exercising to find out the number of calories burned. Two totally different products for two totally different uses. Since you're doing the 30-day shred and playing soccer I'd probably go with the HRM so you can see what you're burning during those activities. I have the Polar ft4 - love it.
Personally I have a FitBit (fancy pedometer) AND an HRM - because as I said they're completely different things. I use the FitBit to track all day and the HRM when I do 30-day shred or other workouts. Love them both.0 -
See above. HRM for exercise and Fitbit for daily activity. Choose what is more important for YOU or get BOTH if you can afford it.0

The Tanita PD 724 is a cheap but accurate 3 axes pedometer which is £25 in the UK. You would need to manually add calories burn at the end of the day- another option.0
