Help to understand how many calories I should eat...

I keep hearing different opinions about the calories I should eat daily.
I try my best to eat healthy and I dont count my calories stricktly but when i say to my husband "that has too many calories", he gets mad and say calories doesnt matter, you have to be careful with fat, carbs, etc...
MFP suggest I should eat about 1200 cal a day, others suggest 1200 cal is too low. Of course I know nothing about nutrition, food, etc but I'm trying to get informed.
So my question is How many calories should I eat a day?
I'm 5'3, 142 lb, I exercise 6 days a week (JM 30DS). My goal weight is 135lbs

Hi proud mommy! Go to this link and read through it to get a good idea of how to really figure out how much to eat. So many people aren't eating enough to lose effectively!

Agree!
Alternately, you're really close to your goal. Set your weekly weight loss to a half pound a week, and eat most of your exercise calories. Get adequate protein (at minimum, aim to go over what MFP suggests) and get regular exercise including strength training. Track your progress through fitness goals, measurements, how clothes fit, and photos, instead of JUST going by the scale.0 -

thanks. That's what i'm trying to lose 1/2lb a week but is not happening. I've lost 1/2 in 3 weeks. I've always wanted to start lifting but i'm too afraid to get started. I feel to week or out of shape. Sometimes I hate myself for this mentality.
I will try eating my cal back and see what happens0 -
