GOAT CHEESE(vs cow cheese)

I have recently fallen in love with the stuff. It has a very noticeably different taste from cow cheese, a particular something I can't put my finger on..oh well.
Current favorite snack:
Wheat thins spread with a soft goat cheese, then small dollop of pepper jelly on top(i like pomegranate jalapeño but the good old tabasco brand one is good as well if you mix in red pepper flakes, or if you like less spicy pepper jelly).
Anyway, can anyone name pros/cons of goat cheese over cow cheese? Is it healthier/higher in fat/any difference at all? I love it but just realized I don't know anything about it.
Friends have said it's gross or unnatural, but if we're going by nature it's meant for baby goats, just like cow milk is meant for baby cows so unless you avoid all dairy I don't get that argument lol
Also, any other good uses/recipes for it?

I love goat cheese! Humans have been making goat cheese for much much longer than they've been making cow's milk cheeses. It has about the same fat content as cow's milk cheese but a different fatty acid profile which is what gives it the distinctive taste. Nutritionally, it's almost exactly the same as other soft cheeses.
My favorite uses:
In salads with fruit and balsamic vinaigrette
Creamy goat cheese pasta with beef tips, pine nuts and spinach
Breaded and pan fried
Goat cheese and pesto quiche
Spread onto sandwiches, spinach, chicken, apple slices and goat cheese is really good0 -

Rice crackers with the same are one of my favorite snacks.
I don't know of any significant difference in nutrients, but it's definitely good stuff. I would say that the difference in taste is that it is sharper or tangier than cows milk. Much in the way that plain unsweetened yogurt is to regular yogurt.0 -
Pro: Goat cheese is delicious.
Pro: So is cow's cheese.0 -
I had goat labane that was absolutely fantastic, but that may have been the small, family-owned dairy in the mountains vs. giant, industrial dairy thing rather than a difference between cow and goat cheese. For me the big difference is the price! Where I live, goat milk costs about 3x as much a cow milk.0

yuck.
Yup. The acidity in goat milk tastes the same as vomit to me. It makes me sad!0 -

That could be it!0 -
I've never actually had just goat milk, but I don't like cow milk so probably wouldn't like that either. All about the cheese here.
and have I mentioned goat milk FUDGE *dies* not that I should have that anymore i guess, a tiny square would most definitely put me over on sugar for the day.0 -
I like it, too. I agree that it's wonderful in salads, expecially good with beet salads.I love it mashed into sweet potatoes, and in the summer it's lovely with fresh figs and little crumbled pancetta on top.
You can also get some very nice hard goat cheeses, and I've also had a very brie-like goat cheese.
Some people think it's better for you than cow milk cheese because it desn't have casein, which can cause allergies (apparently).0 -

bump. I've just started making goat cheese! And that's because I fell in love with a sample I had at a farmer's market of goat cheese with a jalapeno/fruit sauce!0

Quick note: Not 100% true. Goat's milk and sheep's milk have much lower levels of casein, but they are not free of casein. (One of my friends has a very severe dairy allergy so I ended up learning a lot about cow vs. goat).
Also, I love goat cheese. I recommend trying the variety made with lavender.
Or cooking plain goat cheese into polenta and adding rosemary.0 -
I use several dollops in my scrambled eggs each morning, gives it a boost and makes them a little creamier. I cant eat cow dairy, but man i love goat products!0

hm, i put salsa on eggs wonder if that would conflict..0 -
I raise goats and make goat cheese, goat butter, drink goat milk, and, occasionally, eat goat meat. I love goats!!!
Goat dairy products are easier for many people to digest (over cow dairy). We started raising goats because our children were allergic to cow milk.0 -
Goat cheese is typically very potent in flavor, ergo you may use less than the cow cheese equivalent.
However sheep cheese (monchego) > then all.
cheese so much..0 -
Yum, I love balsamic onion and goats cheese tarts and they aren't that bad for you either, calorie wise, cook your onions in a big splash of balsamic vinegar and veg stock til soft, put on top of puff pastry cook for 15 mins ish at 160 then add some sliced goats cheese and cook for another 5-10 mins. Delicious ! I'm going to have to have that tomorrow now ! Yum x0
