i have had knee problems too in the past....but actually after i have lost weight....well, the pain has gone away too. And one more thing, i suggest u to warm up very very well cause it happens to me that before doing any sports and actually during nothing goes wrong but after my articulations hurt...and my coach told me it is because i don't warm up well enough

More stretching and see a chiropractor. I have the same problem it's because the tendons around the knee are tight from all the running, which also causes the joint to become immobile to a point. Knees should have some side-to-side movement but once those tendons tighten up, there isn't any. Also, a chiropractor can help free the joint. Also, the glucosamine, and fish oil help lubricate the joint to lessen the "crunching" sound. As far as running compared to steps, with steps, the pressure you put on the knee fluctuates due to the steps,as well as most people take steps flat footed. where as the running is a steady amount of pressure as your foot hits the pavement, and you're more conscience about rolling from the heel to the ball of your foot, taking less pressure off of the knee. It's been proven that a runner only places weight on the foot for less than half a second, compared to around a second per step.

[/quote] Just to let you know I am not an athlete or an expert but just thought I would tell you what has worked for me. I only jog max 2 miles 2-3 x a week at a somewhat slow pace. Good luck WRXYMOM (I love that name and cute Rexy. Been a Subaru fan for many years)

I tore my left PCL during roller derby, and I'm assuming that the knee slides didn't fair well with my knees either....and that's EXACTLY where I"m at with C25k about 2miles 2-3x a week, and 4-4.5 is the hightest I go. I hate the thought of possibly another excersise, as I have a treadmill at home...and that's it for excercise equipment. I may just have to break down and have the gool ol knees looked at. I don't want to stop running, but I certainly don't want to damage them anymore.

And thanks on the Subi. I have a love for that car that would possibly put me in the running for the show "Taboo" lol

I would suggest talking to a doctor or physiotherapist about the joint first, and they will be able to give you some great exercises and support so that you can heal, strengthen and keep on running.

    ^^This.

Yes to these two responses. You're having some pretty severe symptoms -- MFP is a great place to ask for advise on general aches and pains, but NOT a substitute for real medical expertise. Rest, ice, and anti-inflamitories are a good combo -- while you wait for your appointment with your DOCTOR.

I second the Go to Dr. to check it out.

I was having SUPER bad knee pain, but in both knees. It started out just as the right knee, then was in both knees. My family has issues with losing cartilidge in the knees so I was worried that was what was going on. Especially since my knees pop loudly when walking up stairs.

It was to the point I could barely walk for 10 minutes without having to sit down, the pain actually made my molars hurt (probably becuase I was gritting my teeth from the pain)

Finally went in to the doctor, and got some 'good' news. For me, my knee pain was related to my history of weight lifting. My hamstrings were stronger than my quads, so that was causing tendonitis of the ligaments in my knees. Also, I had torn my right hamstring muscle when doing Romanian deadliftsm, that's why the right side hurt faster and more than the left. I was told no more doing anything to work the hamstrings, super light weights for the quads, and LOTS of ballet stretching. My left knee is fine now, but my right knee I can still feel it, especially if I don't do the stretching, even a little walking and I can feel the hamstring tighten up and then the knee will start hurting.

Went to my chiropractor. He put some pulse things on my lower back to help relax the muscles. Then went on to work my knee and straighten me out. I completed my run, and my knee is pain free. Definitely will be making my reg trips from now on! What a difference!!!
