I've become cocky and kind of lazy

I still try my best to exercise and I still keep very good track of what I eat, but have I been working to stay out of the red and within my daily allotted caloric range? Nnnnope!

I have become a bit cocky. I lost 41 pounds and I know what works for me. So each day when I eat a bunch of candy or two dinners, I say, "That's ok. It's just one day and I can get back on track any time I want." But then I do the same thing again the next day. At night I think, "That's ok, tomorrow I'll go back to the methods that work." I know sweets are what destroy me, that I can never have just one piece of candy or cake, and whenever I cut sweets out of my diet it suddenly becomes easier to stay within my caloric range and fit in foods that are actually good for me.

But it's sort of like having the test answers and saying, "I'll still study so that I can know the material anyway." Will I really? No, because I know how the best way to lose weight for me, even if I lack the motivation to actually DO it.

How do you finally kick yourself back into gear after falling off the wagon?

I am exactly where you are right now! I keep thinking 'a snack won't hurt' and then three snacks later I feel like I'm swallowed by my greed. :< I'm also looking to get back on the wagon, but I can't find the momentum needed.

I was doing the same thing, what's happened is my pants are getting a little more snug. Since I got rid of the bigger clothes I have no choice but to get back on track!
  • I kick myself once my clothes are super tight and it means I need to wear the next size down. Back at it once that happens!

I give myself a serious talking to in the mirror. Seriously!

Then I write out goals to get to what I need to do, and it may take a bit and some baby steps to get there. You can do it. As Clint Eastwood said in a movie "you gotta get mad dog mean" about it.
  • I feel your pain. I am half way to my goal and feel stuck. I know part of my problem is my living situation. The other part is just pure I am off the wagon and need to get back on.

For me, it's all about setting a new goal to train for. I ran a half on 9/29. . . if I waited until my next half (5/5) then I'd totally go bonkers with fitness and food until Feb or maybe even March. So, I signed up to do a 15k (just did it yesterday) and two 5k's before the end of the year. That'll keep me focussed on getting enough running in to balance out any holiday indulgences. THEN, I'll start focussing on my next big goal for May!

Maintenance is usually the hardest part. If you have more to lose, I sure hope you get back to it soon!! Good luck!

I'm right there with ya, sistah! I had two days last week that went all wrong... but felt so right... GAAAAAH.

I took 3 days off of exercising because I felt the need to top off the cake of my nutritional demise with the cherry of laziness.

So - I stay on my ever flat plateau and I trudge on. I worked out again today.. and ate a bunch of nutritionally weak pound cake... and I promise that I'll do better. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
