Protein

Is it terrible to go over on your protein? I wouldn't think so because it is what gives your body energy. I eat a high fiber cereal for breakfast a turkey sandwich for lunch and then some sort of meat for dinner every night and I always go over. Any input?

I think the protein is set pretty low on MFP. I always go over. You can also customize your settings if you want.0

From everything I've read on here, the protein and fiber settings are more like minimums instead of maximums. I still hate seeing those red numbers, but it's completely ok.0

Most people that workout often find the % protein quite low on MFP, but it is what the gov't recommends. I for one and a lot of others changed the protein goal.
If you want to aim for higher protein go into goals, click custom, and change the % protein. I only increased by 5% with the offset being carbs. play around and see what works for you.0 -
I wouldn't worry as long as it's not too much over. Also watch that deli turkey, it's extremely high in sodium. You would be better off cooking a turkey breast and slicing it down for yourself for lunches. I limit myself to 4 oz of turkey breast. Maybe you just need to cut back on your portion? The program I'm on say 3 to 5 oz of turkey, pork, chicken, extra lean ground beef, fat free deli meats. 3 oz of regular ground beef, ribeye and strip steak, pork, chicken thighs/legs, 3 to 5 oz of seafood. Hope this helps! Christine0

I've noticed that too. If I'm getting plenty of vegetables and some fruit too, I know that what I'm eating is healthy and feel fine about it. If I don't eat the veggies, though, I get hungrier. So, that's not good from a couple of points of view! Roasted veggies are making the big difference for me. I never knew they were so good!0

The book "The China Study" has some great info on protein. It's not a diet book, but a nutritional study.0
